They would work fine on that cam, but you could always use double springs, if you think it might be a safer route.

+1 for Chris and Comp Cams. I talked to him on Friday afternoon, and I had my new set of revised 918s at my house Monday evening (along with a set of new Magnum 7.400" pushrods that I ordered with free shipping ). Couldn't have asked for any better service than that. Here is a comparison of the original Comp 918s and the revised 918s (on the right). They both install at 1.800". Once I get my Nova off to the paint shop it will be time to install the new cam in the C5.

Yes they are. I didn't mic them last night, but you can visably see that they are shorter. Notice that the seat load is 5 lbs lighter at the same installed height even though the spring rate is higher on the new springs. Also the "open" load is listed .050" more than the old springs, which backs up the earlier comment that these should be OK for .650" lift. I will be using them with .585" lift, so there is plenty of safety factor there.

So I'm guessing that these new 918s should be shimmed.

I dont think they need to be shimmed but I do see that they seem to be good to .650 but thats with only a .050 saftey margin....I still say .625 is where I'd max them out to be safe but thats only an opinion...

so w/o any shims they install at 1.8?
so then you subtract your lift and coil bind. .595 lift and 1.1 coil bind
that gives .105 subtract .05 and end up needing a .055 shim right?

I don't think so. It doesn't make sense that they would redesign springs that are for a specific application and make it so you have to shim them. If that was the case then they would include shims with the springs.

You hear about that with aggressive lobes like LSK's. You shim them to keep pressure up and help prevent the valves from bouncing or floating.

No, you need to measure the installed height. If you are not compressing your spring enough, it won't be able to do it's job on the seat or at low lifts.

I would say I've installed 10 sets of older 918's and they all were 1.78 to 1.80 dropping them right on the head...

Never had one problem with them on any of these car,it would be nice to get an swer from Comp on this subject or someone who has installed the new springs?

I just left Chris a message about my 918's. Do they give you new ones based on the batch number you got originally? Thanks Jim

Not really. I didn't know the batch number on mine. They are pretty much replacing any and all of them where there is any doubt that they may have come from a bad batch.

I'd like to know this too. I threw out my box several months ago.

Edit- So yay or nay on shims? I really just want to remove my old ones and install my new ones, nice and fast.

same situation here- no receipt or original box. I was going to put them in when I did my cam (222/228, 560 lift). I'll call them tomorrow & see what they'll do.
