best cam to run with stock heads
Looking to do a cam/intake/tb swap in the future. Looking for a nice cam to run with stock heads (I know I will need to change the springs, and timing chain). Emissions is not an issue. My car is a street/strip car and not a daily driver. It is a "weekend warrior" car. Thinking of a 228/228 112 lsa. Should I go more aggressive/ less aggressive or is this a good cam to run? See my mods in my signature.

Be careful not to overcam, because plenty of people will eventually show up here and tell you to run a Magic Stick / Vindicator / TRex / Megacam of the month because it's designed to clear stock heads. Just because it fits doesn't mean it is what you want.
That said, your car is a good candidate for larger grind, if you intend to emphasize the strip side of street and strip. Your gears and suspension appear pretty well setup to hit the drags, you don't want a daily driver, etc.
A lot of people will daily drive a 228/228 112 and be perfectly happy with it. If you want that kind of drivability, then go for it. If you are willing to trade some low end for more top end, then look at something a little bigger, like Thunder Racing's TRak cam, or Texas Speed's 233/239.
Last but not least, talk to a sponsor, tell them exactly what you want to do with the car, and let them spec you a custom grind. Patrick G and Thunder have a great following on this board.

Since your car is not daily driven i would go with a more aggressive cam than the 228 maybe look into the MS4. I have the 228/228 112 to me its a very street friendly cam with good power.Give the guys at texas speed a call they will steer you in the right direction.

Thanks guys great advise. I diffenately don't want to go too big. A lot of guys seem to really like the 228/228 112. I will definitely do my research, but I am leaning more towards this cam. I guess Texas Speed has about the best grind for this or should I go with another manufacturer?

I had the texas speed 233/239 on a 113 and it was awesome, great drivabilty, put down 411rwhp through 12bolt and kooks, Has a great power band also made same power as MS3 on same dyno with same tunner and same combo

I knew a guy that had a 2001 z28 6-speed with stock heads,
dumped exhaust, stock 10 bolt, long tubes, lid, new clutch and flywheel
with the 228/228 from TSP and threw down 410rwhp and trapped 120 in the quarter.
The 228/228 is a good cam. I wouldnt leave it out of the running.

Anything 230/230 and smaller will be fine for daily driving.. But if you know you are going to stick with the stock heads, then I would agree with hammertime and would have Patrick G spec you a custom cam that compliments your mods.. If anything it will give you a piece of mind on your decision..

I have talked on other forums, and a buddy said this is about the best cam to run with stock heads. My buddy has one and loves it. I am going to call TSP today and I think I am leaning towards this one with a 112 lsa. My car is not a daily driver and only sees about 4,000 miles a year mostly on the weekends at the track or on car cruises.

a great middle of the road cam is the Speedinc SI5 - 231/237 112lsa 589/595
it's a more aggressive cam - but it's still very driveable. you might want to give them a call.

I trapped 119.3 with the 224/228 581 581 112+2 XER comp cam- full weight t top 99 Z, 10 bolt 4.10 gears, most all bolt ons, stock rockers, BFG DR's on a 1.89 60ft, Hypercoil roadrace springs, stock shocks and stock suspension. The more my et dropped, the higher mph I ran. I ran 12.20's on street tires at 117, 12.0's @ high 118's/low 119's on DR's. Spec St3 clutch/flywheel, 39x rwhp. That was 3 1/2 years ago.
