Default Porting Stock LS1 Heads???

Ok my mods are in my sig. I have access to a set of stock LS1 heads and i would like to port them and do a nice valve job on them. Will i see any gains on the dyno or would i be wasting my time with them? I have a buddy that is buying a porting kit so i could do that part myself.

Yes it is worth it, makes sure you just don't go hogging them out. Porting heads is a science, the way in which you port has a huge effect on your powerband as well. Do lots of research before you start digging in.

i'm porting a set of heads for myself right now for the first time. i did a lot of searching and reading on here. there is a lot of great info on here to help you. do most of your work in the bowl. you can take out a lot of material around the guide and where the rocker bolt boss is. also do some nice work on the bottom of the port where it rounds down to the seat. becarful not to take out too much in the runner because you will loose velosity. here is a great write up from here that helped me alot with some pictures to help for reference (thanks to kenkaru). trust me when i tell you it is very time consuming and mind numbing. please anyone correct me if i'm wrong on anything i'm still working on them and i got 1 head to go (thank god). i don't know if i can post this but here's another good write up from standard abrasives. i also have a question about this. what is the best way to match the intake runners to the head because you can't use the gasket to match it on a ls1 like on other engines?

Just did a mild port and polish on my 243 heads with good results, do a search on "bo white" he has a lot of good information on P&P on this forum. Its not that hard just time consuming, GOOD LUCK!

If the price is right a good set of stocks head that are correctly ported/milled will run just like an aftermarket set. Maybe not comparable to aftermarket castings, but say a CNC'd LS6 head...yes.

I plan on doing this to my stock heads once I pull them off my blown up shorblock just for practice and to keep them if I ever throw a LSx based engine in my camaro.
