Default Big Cam Guys with A4's come in please, need opinions.

OK, I have a 00 ws6 with 3.23 gear, TCS 3700 TC, stock heads (don't plan on changing anytime soon), and will probably be using REV 1116 dual valvesprings for my cam choice. I have a few concerns/questions though before I make a purchase. I have read LOTS of post about the following cams but I can't seem to find the whole story, everyone always has ported heads or it's not a daily driver a4. I want the most power to use on the street, don't mind a little surge, or making it warm up before it acts ok but I don't want it to be a total PITA b/c it is my only car and my daily driver. I have MTI lifetime tuning so tuning isn't really an issue I guess, or do I need it wideband tuned as well? Here are the choices I considering:

1. F1 (speedtek?) and MTI X1 (basically the same from what I can tell)

2. TSP 228/224 or 228/228, probably the reverse split version but I'm not sure.

3. TR 230/224 111 lsa
TR 227/224 114 lsa

So, would these cams be streetable in a daily driver with my mods? Do you think I would need 3.73? Would I be happy with it. I have access to 224/224 563/563 114 cam but I want a 112 for lope and to move the powerband down, and I want a tad more power. I have heard the X1 will hurt the stock heads after a while, is this true?

I run the X1 Cam and I love it. Before I got the cam I too wondered how streetable it was. Its very streetable and have no problems with it dying. I even make 6 hr. round trips with no problems.

I also think you should go with the 373's to get the most out of the cam!

thanks, is there any problems with the X1 and stock heads? Do you think I could manage 3.23 until my rear blows or something?

I ran the TSP 228/224 on my A4
I had Zero issues after tunning...
My idle was set @ 900
with a 4000 stall and 3.73s I made 364rwhp (unlocked) and 381rwhp (locked). That was with stock maf and pulley, thru macs and a super dirty air filter

The 228/228 is a great cam for a daily driver. If you want a little bigger we also have a new 231/237 598 595 on a 112. We currently have special pricing on it, and its the same cam that went 430rwhp with stage 1 heads decked 5 thou. If I can help you any please feel free to e-mail me.

Either cam will drive around town just fine, the key is all in the tune

Yeah u can manage 373's until u blow ur rear end but that could take forever! Alot of people are scared to break their rear end. When the time came when I tried my hardest to break it, it wouldnt! I had to spray 150 shot out of the hole with a vig 3200 and slicks about 40 times before it went! I say get the 373's as before u get the cam...

G5-X2, heads, TCS 3800, 3:73 gears. Makes 435 at the rear. Very easy to drive on the street. Idles at 950 with no creeping. A/C works fine with it. Long Hauled the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour with the cam in the car. Lots of major traffic jams but it never overheated. The idle sounds wondeful!

man, you gusy make it hard for me to pick. i can't believe that you can run the G5-X2 or a 110 LSA cam in an a4 and have no problems with a daily driver.

I think I found a deal on a F1 with about 3K miles on it. Is it OK to buy a cam with some miles on it?

I guess with an F1 I won't be missing to much from a G5-X2 as far as power but I'm on a budget and I want a cam NOW. I had a TR224/224 114 I never installed sitting in my garage for a while staring at me and I couldn't decide if I wanted bigger but I finally decided to do it. I hope I won't regret it, i never even driven a cam'd car.

the 224 is perfect for what you want. 400 to the wheels is achievable with a nice rpm range for the street. Bigger cams doesn't mean necessarily better. You aren't going to spending all your time at 6500 + rpms. Majority of the time you will spend in your low to midrange on the street.

well, I don't really care how much power I am making when I'm not racing so i don't see the reason for a good low end with a 3700 stall. Maybe I'm just saying that b/c I have no experience with cams, i don't know. I'm sure the 224 would feel "better" in stop and go traffic but as long as my car isn't dying every 5 seconds or anything I don't really care. See, now you got me thinking i'm making a mistake I know it's all about prferance and tolerance but it's hard to know those w/o experience i guess so I have to rely on the boards. Thanks for all the help guys, the more the better.
