I THINK THIS WILL BE MY CAR FOREVER SO IM JES WORRIED IF ITLL GET WORSER IN THE FUTURE AND IF I DO BRING IT IN ATLEAST THEY HAVE IT IN PAPER THAT I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THAT. There not gonna do anything for you. Unless your car starts using up many quarts of oil between changes they won't do anything and it's nothing to worry about unless it does like what I just said. Mine has piston slap like almost all gm v8's and it goes away once warmed up and doesn't use any oil. I complained to my dealer already. Either way when you add headers that will void your powertrain warranty

We pretty much all have the piston slap problem and there's not much you can do about it, you can

-perform a PCV modification (SMH or Horizontal to vertical)
-change your plugs
and
-use GM top engine cleaner

That is supposed to stop the slapping and the oil consumption.

My friend's dad has a ZO6 that had some piston slap. They cleaned the carbon off of his pistons and reprogrammed the PCM and its totally gone.. Wish they could fix it that easy for us f-body owners.

I did a H/C swap and my pistons and heads were crusted badly with black carbon....however, I did not have piston slap either before or after I cleaned the pistons...

I've driven a few LS1 cars and have not heard any with piston slap...

What does the piston slap, anyway?

You're lucky robertbartsch. My "ex" Z28 had piston slap like a ****. It sounded like a gosh-damned diesel when it was cold.

"...They cleaned the carbon off of his pistons and reprogrammed the PCM and its totally gone..."

Your friend must not have had piston slap then. Piston slap is a direct result of an overbored cylinder. How would reprogramming the PCM help that?

1320 Performance- You're probably wasting your time...BUT if your car honestly slaps 24/7 even when warm you have a bigger problem. Piston slap goes away once the motor is up to operating temp because the piston expands and the overbored cylinder is "filled" by the expanded piston.

I should add that it doesn't hurt performance really. I was cranking out mid 11's on basically a stock LS1 with a 150 shot.

I talked to a guy who works in a service dept. He was saying that one of the solutions his manager gave them was to try and match pistons to cylinders: smallest piston to smallest cylinder and so on. From what he said, it did take care of the problem.

Oh, btw, he's also an F-body enthusiast, so it isn't a line of BS.

good luck, my car sounds like a diesel all the time.it never goes away and is embarassing.i took the car back and they said it was normal.it was also using about a qt of oil every 1500 miles.the dealer wanted to fix it but had a guy from gm look at it and he said nothing was wrong.well after alot of bitchin they give me a 100000 mile warranty on the engine.

I feel sorry for you guys that have to deal with piston slap. I guess I'm one of the lucky few that never got it. 23,000 Miles on my 2002 SS and never had a hint of it.

I have no slap noise hot or cold,so I feel lucky.
But my friend had a piston slap noise 24/7 and the dealer DID take it apart and found that 3 cylinders had worn walls and the piston skirts were worn. They warrentied a new motor. This guy also had a Hotcam in it and they did not care, gave it back to him out of the old motor
The dealer is in Conneticut.

You can also bring it in 3 times and get them for the Lemon law. There is no way they can say it's normal if you bring a friend with another F-body thats engine is quiet.
