Default Cam setup help please

Well, I have a 2000 TA with minor mods..suspension, borla catback, and a cutout. I talked with Horsepower Engineering and discussed with them I really want a cam (mainly for sound) and 400RWHP would be a nice bonus if possible. Anyway, they said with their winter special;
Pacesetter Longtube headers
Pacesetter off-road connection pipes
HPE Cam of your choice (listed below)
Comp Cams *NEW* .650 lift 918 valve springs
Comp Cam 7.400 pushrods
NGK TR6 Spark Plugs
160* thermostat
Mobil 1 oil change

Price: 2076.12

1 day turn around time, installation and tuning included.

Call or email me to set up an appointment.

281-477-3100 or chuck@horsepowerengineering.com

Here's the cam list to choose from.

Comp Cam- 224/230 on a 112 LSA 581/592 lift
C cam- 232/234 on a 112 LSA 595/598 lift
Blower grind- 235/242 on a 115 LSA 648/610 lift
C+ cam- 236/238 on a 112 LSA 602/605 lift
S cam- 238/240 on a 112 LSA 605/609 lift
S+ cam- 238/242 on a 113 LSA 605/610 lift
S2 cam- 239/242 on a 112 LSA 651/610 lift
Mega Death cam- 244/242 on a 112 LSA 612/610 lift

My questions are:
1. Is $2100.00 a good price for this setup?
2. I would be going with an S cam. I really don't want to have daily driveability problems or any serious mechanical problems because of maybe lcaking other things in the setup.
3. I was told a better set of rockers, lifters, and a double roller timing chain were not necessary and that generally these can withstand a cam and some abuse. Also, I know without an ls6 or fast intake I won't be getting all the power I should, but I just really love the sound of a cam and am waiting for my buddy to sell me his fast 90 and throttle body this summer.

I read the "cam guide" and know that valve springs and pushrods are a must have. Just curious as to know if lifters rockers, and timing chain were necessary...meaning that without them the car won't be a time bomb.

Thanks for all your help,
Brian

O and the car is sitting at about 64K miles right now.

That's an excellent installed price for that set-up. In fact, you probably won't find much better.

veryyyyyyy good price.. cant beat that but that cam is pretty large... just to let you know.. and if you are auto... that tranny will not last you long at allll with the 112 lsa... if you are m6 you shoud be alright.. but depends onthe gears in the back... you may have trouble if you have like 2.73's but anything in the 3.xx should be alright with that cam...not great but alright

yeah thats a pretty good price. i'm doing almost identical set up and mine was 2600.00-2700.00. you might want to check into the patriot gold dual valve springs though, i think those 918's single valve springs are around the same price as patriots dual valve spring

i would go with the C over the S cam

C would be more driver friendly

aslo while you in their have them put a ls2 timing chain and a melling oil pump in.

Great price on that package, especially since it includes install and tune.

As for the cam, if you're looking more for sound (rather than all out performance) and your car is a daily driver, you might want to go with the C cam. It should give you a pretty good choppy sound, however can still be easily tuned to run smoothly (not to mention it will probably help you out a bit down low and mid-range).

i agree i like the C cam too you are not going to gain much more by going with that bigger duration cam...i think you will be happy with the C cam and it will be alot more street friendly...plenty of power can be made from 230/230ish duration cams but the ultimate decision is yours...
