Default stock bottom end to 6800 rpm's???

With my cam, my shift point is about 6800 RPM's.. the previous owner supplied a set of ARP rod bolts and suggested that I install them. I was talking to some local LS1 owners and they said its not necessary with a 2000 and up car. Apparently the 98's had the weaker rod bolts? One local guy i know has a 98 formula and was revving just past 7000 rpm's with a cam and 150 shot on the stock rod bolts and that car went through about 30 bottles (yes 30 bottles ) and it finally let go. My question is, can i safely rev up to 6800 rpm's with the stock 2000 rod bolts or is it imperative that i install the new ones?

thanks

I wouldn't call it imparitive, but it might be a good idea. It's the 01-02's that got the updated rod bolts unfortunatly for us. I'm on stock bolts and rev to 6600 just fine. I've heard that you don't want to exceed 7k on a stock bottom end...

i shift my 99 at 6800rpms with stock rod bolts and have never had a problem. i woulnt worry to much, just keep an eye on your oil level. but than again if you have the bolts why not just do it for piece of mind?

Read up on it first. A few on here have had issues with spun bearings after ARP bolt install because the the rods MAY need resizing after install. Supposedly Katech bolts don't have this problem because they are the same size/weight as stockers (ARP's are a little bigger) . Can't vouch for this from experience but became leery enough after reading on here that I'm gonna play it safe and use Katechs when/if I do it even though they are more expensive. Search it!!

+1 on this. i read the same threads and it made me leery. i stock bottom end too with mti x1 cam. even if you dont install them, i wouldnt go over 6800, and if you really want to be safe dont go over 6600, but if you accidentally hit 7000 dont worry about it too much, just wouldnt do all the time.

there are thousands of people spinning there stock bottom end motors to 6800 rpms without issue. I will be shifting mine at 6600 and setting the limiter at 6800. i wouldnt spin it over 7.

You don't have rod bolts in your motor? I wana know who built your motor...

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I don't see why early LS1's couldnt hold 6500-7000 just fine without spray. Alot of 2 bolt LT1 guys with heads/cam setups run their cars this high and get away with it for a long time. If they can do that, so can we. My car has 123k, and it will get a cam and maybe heads pretty soon. Oil pressure has never gotten below 40psi since I bought it 70k miles ago.
