What cam would you guys reccommend
Well guys Im hoping to do a cam swap this coming spring and really dont know what cam is right for me.
My mods are basicly a lid,LTs, ported and polished TB,UD pulley,3000stall,Grantelli MAFS which im going to try and find a stocker when it comes time for a tune and thats about it. I want something that will make good power and work well with my converter drivability is also important but not to important since it wont be a daily driver but I dont want it to have low idle like some of these cars. I also want something with good lowend power to get me out of the hole good and still perform very well up top. The car may or may not also have a 50-75 wet shot going on top of the cam so thats another thing to consider but chances are it wont but there is a chance. My car is a 98ws6 auto and I probably wont have a ls6intake which I know I should but thats another story so I will be useing the ls1intake unless a find a killer deal ona ls6intake. So basicly the cam I want I just want it to have good lowend power and torque but still make goos numbers up top.
I will also be useing the stock 98heads which I know are basicly the worst out of the years but im not worried about it yet since It will get heads sooner or later. I did search and do see what other guys are running but im a noob when it comes to picking out a good cam. I also want a cam that I wont have to spin to like 6700-7000 like some other of these guys because I know that will grenade my stock trans so maybe something that makes good power all the way across the band. Im looking for good low end and good up top like I stated so hopfully someone can help me out
Thanks guys and lets hear your opinions

By the looks of your set up right now you would benefit from a reverse split cam...Maybe the TR230/224. Im not a cam expert but i did a lot of reading up on them and a reverse split work well with an poor intake setup and good exhaust setup. However if you are goin to be getting heads soon I wouldnt get a reverse split cam being that you will not make the most power with use of the heads with that kinda of cam. In the end my advice would be to talk with Patrick G. or PredatorZ. Patrick G. spec'd me my cam and im waiting as it is in the mail!!!!

hey guys thanks for the responses and I will ofcourse have the ls6intake before heads but I may end up witha fast 90 intake when I finally do the heads so I figured I would just use my ls1intake until I can put a set of heads on the car and do the fast 90 at the same time. The cam I would like is something that will make real good power with my current 98 heads and not spin the motor to over 6500 lets say. Id like a cam that has good low end and pulls hard up top giving off good numbers of both hp and tq but I dont want to and wont spin my motor over 6500 and on up since I know my stock trans will not handle thatespicially once I put a small shot on the car. I dont really beat on it and my trans is in pretty good shape but ive heard by alot of people anything higher then 6300-6500 the trans will not take it and give out a short time later so I want to stick with a cam that does not have to spin that high to make power and still utilize my 98 heads and ls1intake. I cant buy a ls6intake and put it on when maybe in 5-6 months I will buy heads and a fast 90 90 set up. So I will be useing my stock ls1intake.

you would need two different cams to optimize the power for your setup now and then a different one when you get heads and intake. With your current setup you would benefit the most from a reverse split and the power band would be down where you want it. I read though so many threads about cams tryin to decide on what would work best for me. The best thing you can do is talk with Patrick G. and give him your situation and future plans so he can tailor a cam that would work best for what you have now and what you plan to do.

I agree that something along the lines of a TR224 will serve you well. It will offer good drivability and should be easy to tune with your '98 pmc. If you're going to go with heads later on, I'd go just a bit bigger. I've got AFR 205's and a G5x2 right now and I'm just waiting on an opportunity to install AFR's 224/228 cam because I want to get back some of the lower end lost due to the 232/240 duration of the G5x2. I think that type of cam would serve you very well as it will work great with a shot of NO2 with stock heads as well as giving you a nice boost with a good set of eventual heads when you go that route.

any cam will work good with spray unless you shoot 200+. since you have such a small stall i would go no bigger than a 224/224. you should look into a ls6 intake b/c they are only around 400 new and with a complete cam swap your looking at around 1200 to do it right. but again i would go with a tr224/224 on a 112 lsa. it will make some nice power and sound great.

my 230/230 cam is a great flatline torque and hp cam this is what you are looking for...nothing real huge duration wise and around 8 degrees overlap...makes killer power...

Hey guys thanks for all the responses. The only reasson for now I dont want a big cam is Ive heard that anything over 6300rpms or so is suicide for the stock A4 trans. I really want a cam that can make awesome power without spinning to high to blow my trans. I dont know the sotck A4 limit for how high you can spin the motor but I just heard anything over a certain RPM will kill it so im trying to shy away from spinning extremly high to make power
