Default OK, tried searching, no luck.. Need to pick some stealth cam specs

OK, so I read through most of the cam stickies and links therein, and the search is down.

What I want is a stealthy cam that is going to make great power. Im not very impressed with the likes of the MTI Stealth or Stealth II cams, the TSP cams arent what Im looking for and the cheaTR cam is waaay too harsh for what Im looking for.

Basically what it boils down to is me looking into a custom grind. I will either go with Comp or Crower for the grind, but I want some ideas to look at before I make any calls. My car has stock heads, will have QTP headers very soon, full intake tract has been upgraded.

I have a couple ideas of my own, namely one in the neighborhood of a 228/232@.050 .590/.600 115 or 116 LSA. What do you guys think about these valve events? Do you guys think that somthing like this would be worth it versus an off the shelf "stealth" grind?

XER 224/228 .581/588 114, I think AFR uses this cam with their 205 heads w/ great results.. I had it on a 113 +4 & it didn't hardly lope at all, pretty smooth.

[QUOTE=SVTHuh;8645112]228/232@.050 .590/.600 115 or 116 LSAQUOTE]

This will not be stealthy at all.

What is it that you do you not like about the Stealth II camshaft? We have had consitant results, time after time, on many different applications. 400+rwhp is not an unreasonable goal with this camshaft with the right combination.

Im looking for 400+ on stock heads with a healthy somewhat stealthy camshft.

I was actually wondering, why did you guys go with a longer intake duration on the Stealth II as opposed to the longer exhaust duration? Thats what kind of put me off about it. I come from the school of thought that the intake port on these cars breathes so much better than the exhaust that the cam should hold the exhaust open just a bit longer so it can help to fully expell all the spent gasses and aid in scavenging. Am I way off?

it might be easier to create a good flowing stock sounding exhaust. for example. i have not cats and LTs through a bassani quiet thunder. this thing is quieter than a stock SS. my heads are the ones restricting not my exhaust. just some thought

I have the exhaust just the way I want it now, or I will rather once I do my header install. The cam side is what Im interested in now, and I want something that isnt necessarilly stock sounding, but close. I dont want it noticeable like a 238/242 cam on a 110. I want a smooth idle since I sit in traffic for 4 hours every work day. I drive my car on the weekends mostly and maybe 1 or 2 times a week to work, the rest of the time I drive my truck, but still... I want something that isnt overly noticable.

Those two statements kinda of go against each other. So what is it that you really want.
Go with something in the 224 range.

I want something that is a great compromise between the two. I am a firm believer that cams dont have to be mean sounding and lopy or choppy to make good power.

Default Thunder racing cams

thunder racing makes some damn bada$$ cams

stealth cam TR224/224 114 or 112

or a little lopey TR230/224 111

both make "about" the same amount of hp and tq.
both are great street cams, both will need some tuning.
theses cams will give you great power under the curve.

just my .02 cents

A reverse split camshaft is designed around a stock headed/intake setup which is why the stealth II works so well with factory LS6 heads/intake. It is very common to make 400+ rear wheel on a setup like this in a 6 speed car.

Oh it was on stock LS1 heads on our 01 SS camaro and I have heard GForces dyno reads kind of low as well.

You're also in Kalifornia - how do you plan to get by the emissions with anything bigger than a 224 cam? I'd say research the Stealth II some more. I have that cam and it's perfect for sitting in Houston traffic - no issues. Plus, it idles very close to stock, but you can hear some differences. Also, I put down 382 horse - WITH factory exhaust manifolds and cats. You should easily be over 400 with headers.

Good luck.

Are you planing on spraying? why the 115 or 116 LSA?
MS4 cam should put you over 400. However, its an N/A cam 649lift 110-111 lsa.

I make 460ish, with MS3 237/242 .603.609 112 LSA but you can get a up to 114 lsa..
I have PRC 5.3L heads though...

with the specs your showing, your gonna need dual valve spring too.

I already have valve springs from my old 383 LT1. Does anyone know off the top of their heads if they will fit right in?? I dont know the part number, but I really want to use them, Ti locks and retainers, dual spring good to .650...

Slow95... sent you a PM... Why are you selling if you dont mind me asking.

BAD2000TA... I appreciate the concern, but even in california, there are ways around a big cam passing smog... legally.

1BDTRAM... I am planning on spraying every now and again, but not all the time... Only when I need to keep my friends in check. I am more of a road course racer than a drag racer. The only time I will be spraying is at special events at the drag strip and roll runs when I need to bring the smack down to a cocky buddy.

I appreciate all the great advice... Please, keep it coming.

Ok, Do you know not want choppyness in your cam? Does it have to be stealthy?
MS3 is a kick *** juice cam, but works wonders on N/A
Like I said, 460 on motor, and 602 on gas.....
ha ha, got my prc heads built, 5 angle valve jarb with PRC duals springs for 1,199, and cam for 389.
About the used springs.. how many miles are on them? you may still want new dual springs. And I think they'll work. But if go with a 600+ lift, you may want to invest in some new springs if your old ones have alot of use.

Check out the Thunder Racing Cheatr cam, too. 215/230 @ .050" lift, 117 LSA, IIRC. Dual valvesprings recommended, though.

Lingenfelter's got a little cam that makes good power, is stealthy, and will work with Comp 918 or LS6 valvesprings. It's popular for FI applications, but works well NA, too. Described as an "LS6 cam on steroids."

The springs had maybe 10k on em. The cam I was running them on was a .590/.600 cam. The motor grenanded, but the valvetrain was fine minus some bent valves and pushrods.

Im not worried about using the springs.. I just want to be sure that they will fit on the LS1 heads.

If your goals are 400+ RWHP and little to no lope on stock heads, You aren't going to meet them. With ported heads both the TR224 and Stealth cams will surpass the 400 mark with the right intake and exhaust parts. But without ported heads your gonna miss your goal by about 20-25RWHP or so. If you choose a cam big enought to make the power you want on stock heads it WON'T be anywhere near stealth in sound.

The benifit of a cam like the Stealth with almost no lope is most people won't realized what they picked a race with until it's too late.
