Default Question about CTS v ls6 motor???

We just got one from Gm and installed it in T/A using the ls1 oil dip stick. Well we notice the oil pain was deeper and with 6 quarts it wast just touching the dip stick. The question is do the caddy's take more oil or do we have the wrong drip stick? how much oil do these things take? build up info here.

Damn thats weird.

GM Service says 6.5 quarts.

It must be the wrong dip stick then right?

I put 6 in mine. My stick must be longer than yours. Dipstick is probably longer as well.

Just fill it with 6.5 quarts and cut the dipstick tube down until the oil is at the full mark.

We used the stock ls1 dip stick on the CTS V ls6 motor. This oil pan looks just like the stock ls1 oil pain buts its just deeper. I hangs about 1-2" lower then the K-member. So we may be doing a oil pan swap off the old ls1 that came out of it Because the ls1 that was in it is going into a 4x4 80's silverado and will not have any clearince issues.

You need the dipstick for the pan you are using, or you need to swap the pan. It would obviously be cheaper to just get the right dipstick

Yes it would be easier to get the right dipstick, but I would swap the pan. You don't want the LS6 pan to hang down lower than the k-member. Thats just asking for trouble.

Swap the pan and call it a day.

The reason for the swap of the oil pan is it hanging 1-2" lower then k-member and we dont no how safe the guy is going drive the car. It had some deep scratches on the k-member, wont be the k-member anymore. If it was me i would leave it and just get a new dipstick. Its up to the owner
