Default How can I achieve 400 HP from my stock LS1?

I've tried to come up with a realistic goal for me and so far I'm looking at the SLP stage 3 package which claims it can achieve 400 hps. Does anyone think my money should go elsewhere or would this be a good package to get. I have an '02 stock TA (auto) and no matter how much I've read up on it, I'm not understanding how the engine functions (I just know the basics) It's really frustrating that it doesn't sink in for me. But anyway, if anyone has knowledge of how to achieve somewhere in the 400 hp range I'd appreciate it, (No Nitrous either). Thanks in advance.

He said he's A4, but blk 99 ss is right, a lot of guys are making that with cam only. The biggest things to get is headers, cat-back, intake lid, cam, and tune. you already have a good intake manifold (LS6) that will support up to about 500HP so spend your money elsewhere. If you're in an emission testing area you'll want to make sure you keep within regulations so mid-length or shorty headers and a mild cam with a good tune will do the trick. Keep in mind though with the A4 and a cam you'll need a higher stall converter to take advantage of the powerband from the new camshaft. I haven't heard much about the SLP packages, but in all honesty I've heard bad things about SLP though it's mostly about their installation and tuning at their shop, they do have decent products even though they're a bit pricey. Also invest in a good set of spark plugs and wires

dont buy that SLP Stage whatever ****....they over rate EVERYTHING. if you do full bolt ons.....you'll be around 350 rwhp (intake, ported tb, lt headers, full exhaust, pulley, tune, etc). you're gonna need a very healthy size cam to get you over 400 rwhp since yours is an auto. and bc its an auto, if you get a big cam, youre gonna wanna swap the converter for something with a higher stall speed.

Custom cam (tiny by today's standard)

224/224 .609/.581 114+2 LSA

+ Headers, catback, ported Throttle Body, free mods, pulley 25% underdrive.

That should get you +/- 400rwhp with a good professional tune.

Theres an article from a magazine or something that i read a while ago where they dyno tested the 400 hp performance pac on a trans am. The slp packages are not overrated, but theyre rated at the crank not the wheels. When you look at it like that, it's not overrated but WAY overpriced.

Why no nitrous?

The parts from the SLP kits can be had for $2500 from other manufactures (which I think are better). With the exception of the rocker arms, but you can get a cam kit for less of a price than those rockers and springs. So for less than $3500 you can have way more power and still have money to buy a nitrous kit for even more power.

85mm TB? Theres really no gain over a ported stocker on a 78mm intake. If you go with a FAST 92/92 then thats a different story.

85mm isnt the correct size, 78mm is. Why waste money on something that isn't gonna help you?

Search external and you can get one ported professionally with your trade for $65 or so.

Search CHRS1313 on here and he makes 420+ cam/bolt ons with the times to prove it with a Pedator-Z speced "El Toro" cam His car has been on a diet wich helps too

Don't forget your are going to need a decent size converter with that kind of power. So put that into your budget if you don't have it there already.

I made 390rwhp with my cam, 4000 converter, and 4.11 gears.
