Default changing out the stock cam for a stock cam?

I was curious to see if anyone with an 01-02 ever swapped out there cam for a 98-00? I was thinking about doing it. Just keep the stock springs and pushrods, probably change out the oil pump. I know it probably won't be worth it, but I don't have the money for a 1000$ cam job. I could probably buy a 98-00 cam cheap as **** though. I'd pay 50$ for 5 HP

It is not just 50$
You'd have to pay for gaskets, oil, fluids etc...
At least try to get a cheap LS6 cam

Yeah, there's lots of collateral. Maybe find a used cam in the 22x range or below if you're looking to save money. Like Predator said, LS6 as well.

This would be a total waste of money honestly. I wouldn't go any smaller than a 224 cam.

+1 if you are saving the money by DIY, go ahead and get a decent cam. A gasket kit is about $150 from O'Reilly's for the whole top end.

I got a 216/224dur with a .551/.551lift 115lsa from crane cams that i can sell you for about $200. it only has about 500 miles on it. i ran it and thought, maybe i want bigger. this cam is slightly bigger than the ls6 cam and the idle is pretty descent(SLEEPER)!

And the whole gasket kit, you dont have to worry about it if you go with the rod method. look it up, its really easy, thats how i did mine. you dont have to worry about taking off the top of the engine.

Stock cam change is a waste of time, energy, and money. A Z06 cam is the minimum cam you should consider changing and it is not really worth it.You will need timing chain cover gasket, and water pump gasket, crank seal, along with some antifreeze..it will not cost $150 but you will have some expense involved. Save a little money and pick up the parts you will need one by one. You will be much better off doing a real cam and valve train upgrade.

Like I said I'm not trying to spend alot of money. I don't want to go to big because I don't want to use money on a tune. An ls6 cam sounds nice. I can just pick up some ls6 springs too and some chromoly pushrods and call it a day.

I'm running my 224 set-up without a tune. Have been for about 6 months now. Car starts & runs just fine everyday. Thats part of the reason the 224 used to be so popular, it'll run fine without a tune, your just leaving some power on the table.

Push rods and springs would be a waste with just an ls6 cam. your stock stuff should be able to handle it!

I ran stock pushrods on my old LS6 cam setup with no problems. Shifted at 6500rpms. You should not use stock LS1 valvesprings with an 02+ LS6 cam. They do not have enough open and seat pressure to handle the LS6 lobe. You will float the valves and could cause alot of damage. You need 02+ LS6 valvesprings at minimum. I got a used 02 LS6 takeout cam and springs back in 02 for cheap and installed them. Car idled and drove like stock but with alot more topend power. Made 363rwhp @ 351rwtq untuned with stock 241 heads, all bolt ons in sig. Made 376rwhp @ 361rwtq after a tune. Tune also really improved fuel mileage and made the car much more responsive.

It's too much work for little to no gain even if it didn't cost you anything. I would recommend at a minimum an LS6 cam but would go slightly bigger myself. There are other cams out there that will give you more and run OK without tuning.

I have a stock 98 cam with 50k miles on it in perfect shape. You can have it free. You pay shipping and packing costs, but you are more than welcome to it!

You'd be pissing in the wind....
Grab a cheap cam from someone going bigger(I've seen them go as low as 100-150), some 918's from SDPC for 130.00, fluids and gaskets would be the same as the 98 Cam swap would cost

You could keep your stock Timing chain, Oil pump, and Pushrods(If your a total cheap ***)

You could see 20-30 RWHP this way easily

the gt2-3 cam fron lingenfelter is a nice ls6 cam on roids....lol but it's 400 bucks

also on the gasket deals, iunno i just reuse mine just checkign on them to make sure they didnt get flattened or anything. done 3 cam swaps on the same gaskets and havnt leaked anything.

and if it dose leak on me, i can just go to work and get them at almost free cost bwahaha

I'm almost 18, I am a cheap ***. I could buy a ls2 chain, and some new pushrods though. Gaskets from Texas speed are like 50$ 918's aren't bad.

I just don't want a cam that will make my car run like **** without a tune. This is 100% my daily driver. Definately looking for something non lopey too, so overlap should be less then 3.

Isn't the GT2-3 made for stock manifolds? I have LT's and ORY. What about the stealth II?
