Default What oil to use on a high mileage LS1?

I have a 2001 WS6 with 87,000 miles on it and I would like some input on what type of oil to use. I have to travel from North Carolina to Texas in about two months and I have stared to prep it for the long drive ahead, I have been using Mobile for the past year with no problems yet but you opinions are welcome.
Thanks

Mbil 1 or Royal Purple 10-W30 gets my vote. 87K? That aint high for one of these motors. I still run those oils on my 98...current mileage 161XXX

screw mobil 1 - its overpriced for what you get! Its good oil, but not for the price. Penzoil platinum kicks its *** on price and UOA results! Save money and get better oil with Penzoil Platinum - pep boys usually has big rebates on it too!

Penzoil Platinum SUCKED in my motor, i switched from Mobil to The Platinum for a try and it made more noise than ever and it ran right through it, like it was drinking it and I have never had my motor drink ANY motor oil. I switched back to mobil and it is back to normal.

Question.. what are your oil pressure readings ?.. cold, Hot, idle and WOT ?.. that should help in answering your questoin of weight of oil to use..
If the reading are somewhat normal.. continue to use the recommened oil weight as the manufactor suggest (5w-30w).. should you start to lose oil pressure.. I would then step up a weight. (10w-30w). Those are my recommendations..

I use Penzoil Platinum myself in 5w-30w (for now) in my LS1 and don't have any problem with using it. But then again, I have been using Penzoil for 40 years.. what can I say.. I buy Chevy, drive Cheyv's, same thing for the oil... always have and aways will.. But that is just my 2 cent and everyone else has there opions and stories to tell.

Autozone usually has a different synthetic oil on sale each week. 5 qrts and a filter for $25. I did use Mobil 1, but now use whatever they have on sale. If you change your oil ever 3k with a quality oil you will not have a problem.

With those pressure reading and with only 87k.. I would say you can use 5w-30w without any problems.. I have read some have posted that they have 200k-300k on there Gen III engine without problem..

Let us know what you find.. it is alway good to hear what others have found when trying different products. Just remember that we want good test.. apples to apples.. no apples to oranges test..!
