Default SES Light after missed shift

Was driving last night and at WOT missed shifting from 3rd to 4th. I didn't go to second rather I just missed the gear and hit the rev limiter. Now the SES light is on and I have a ticking noise. I'm thinking some pushrods got bent but I'm not sure.

if the ses is on I would get it checked at like autozone to read the code(s).

pushrods can be bent with missed shifts for sure, not to hard to check for bent ones, pull the coil packs, valve covers, and rockers.

how likely is it that anymore harm could have been done? The car has low miles ~30000.

I have bent the pushrods 3 times before and didnt do damage. the first two times a couple of pushrods were broke in half. Do yourself a favor and order better pushrods and replace them all. I would say that 95% chance the pushrods are bent.

If I order better pushrods and this happens again which obviously I don't plan on letting it happen but if it does then wouldn't the hardened pushrods force something worse to break???

PCM does not pick up bent push rods. The ticking noise is something in your valve train, you could have floated a valve or something and now the pcm is detecting a misfire??? Is the car missing, or just ticking? If its not doing anything at idle, rev it to 2k and see if there is a miss off idle.

Get it checked at autozone (its free), and do not be running that car hard until you get the valvetrain fixed.

I don't think its that because the engine is knocking/ticking

You need to get the codes scanned, then we can get it narrowed down.

The car is not missing it's just ticking. On the way home I didn't beat on it but there didn't seem to be any loss of power. Just a loud tick/knock and the SES light.

Bend pushrods can indeed set a misfire code or one of a few other more rare codes. Get the codes read and let us know what they were. You likely bent a pushrod or less likely broke a spring. Nothing is certain until you get the codes read though

If you are breaking hardend pushrods you are doing good, it happens though. I finally went with chrome moly trickflow pushrods and not a problem and I beat the **** out the motor on occasion. For the folks saying bent pushrods wont set a SES light off, not sure were you are getting that from but it is possible. If they are bent to much they will eventually break and then your SES light will flash instead of being on constantly.
Not to insult you intelligence how long have you been driving for? how much mechanical knowledge do you have? The reason I ask is when I broke and bent my rods I had very little mechanicla know how and had just recently started driving. So I was not able to really detect a "miss" that should have been noticable. When the car was scanned it told a different story things were messed up. So do as suggested from others and have the codes read and go from there. Better pushrods are cheap insurance and really easy to install.

I'm 26 been driving for a while but this is my first manual 6spd trans. in a high performance car. It doesn't sound like its missing just a knock but I've never worked on cars before. The pushrods are stock and I heard they can break or bend easily to prevent further damage so I'm hoping thats all it is.

well if you wanna find out pop the valve covers off and pull the pushrods out and check them. I think all you would really need is 8mm,10mm sockets to do all this. pull the coils off the valve cover. three screws hold the valve cover on pull it off. then loosen the rockers so that you can spin them and get to the pushrods. Its a piece of cake. I went to a dealership the first two times and it cost me like 400 dollars each time. they only replaced the bent or broken rods also.
