forged stock bore/stroke LS6? Thinking about winter project. I want a forged setup/shortblock with billet rods that I can spin to 7800-8000 RPM. Thinking next summer I'll add a solid roller. Definitely want an LS6 block, Or late model LS1 since I understand they're now the same. Who would you Guy's suggest to build it and what would it cost me roughly?? Thanks in advance.

Re: forged stock bore/stroke LS6? I have a 2002 LS1, but not the LS6 block, so they are not all the same. Also, I don't see any way you are going to spin that motor to 7800 with a hydraulic cam. You will need a solid roller now, and much more to reach that RPM. Monster valvetrain, dry sump oiling system, heads that can even take advantage of it, and on and on. Why would you want to spin that high? You might need to go to a smaller crank too to lessen the amount of side-loading on the cylinder walls.
Re: forged stock bore/stroke LS6? I'm not sure what the rpm limit on the stock PCM is, but I think it only has tables up to ~7,500 rpm. If you going to go to ~8,000 you might want to plan on aftermarket engine control.

Re: forged stock bore/stroke LS6? The ls1 head as great as it is even with all the port work and the biggest valves wouldn't handle that kind of rpm. You would need the asa stack injection intake that kinsler makes to even think about it.

If you go that high, you are going to need a solid roller, a real damn big solid roller. .600" lift on the cam you will need would be a complete waste. What kind of times are you hoping to get? You are looking at crazy amounts of money and around .800" atleast on the cam. The LS6 heads will not keep making power at that RPM. The amount of air needed is too much. C5R heads will, and since you would need a custom intake anyway, might as well go with them. I hope you realize you are talking about a motor that will very well cost as much or more then you paid for the entire car...

Re: forged stock bore/stroke LS6? quickWS6 kinda mentioned this, but the intake will kill you. The stock one takes a crap at about 7200 rpms if not a little lower. Are you thinking about keeping the stock size crank to spin it that high? I wouldnt go with a 4 inch crank. To much cylinder wall pressure. And why do you want to do this? if it ever works i want to hear it

Re: forged stock bore/stroke LS6? I checked with Dave Farmer - he is running a Vette in the SCCA World Challenge series (Past 2years).LS6, stock crank and Forged rods and pistons. Shifts it at 7500 RPM .FWIW.

People used to say that the ASA cam was too much but its starting to get some populatirty. Same with the reverse split cams, the TR230 used to be the king ****, but thunder has one out now thats bigger. The only way your gona find out for sure is to try.
