I am debating on buying a 6.0L block or trying the Dalton sleeve mod with the 4.120 bore. I am hoping someone can give me an idea of the reliability of the Dalton sleeve and if the have any problems with them leeking. I want the most cubs for the buck and can not make up my mind if I want a 4" bore and 4" stroke or if I want a 4.120" bore with 3.622" stroke and less weight. If I am right a 4 X 4 should be 400 inches and a 4.120 X 3.622 should make 375 inches. I know there is a big differnce in inched there but I would hope the smaller stroke would turn tighter. Well what do ya'll think?

With a 4.120" bore and a 4.25" stroke you will have a 454!!!
With the darton name behind the sleeves i am sure that they are a quality product.
You are right that a smaller stroke will allow the engine to rev higher but also remember that you will have to rev the motor higher to get the power out of it. Now if you go with a stroker then you dont have to rev the motor "to the moon" to make serious torque and horsepower.

The sleeves are very good quality, I havent got mine operating yet but you can take them out to 4.160 but that is pushing limits of reliability.
I have had mine done to 4.125, must say it is real scary when you see what they need to do to the block.

Do you have any pics of the block after the machine work and before the liners are installed? Also, do you have any idea as to if these liners would work in a cast iron block like the 6.0? I would love to have the big bore and a ong stoke like 4.25" but I have not heard of anyone running a 4.25" stroke yet. I wonder how much work would be needed to make it fit and how streetable it would be. My personal thoughts are to build a big bore short stroke engine with either turbo charging it or supercharging it. That should make up for the shorter stroke witch should live longer. Also, I use to run a 455 in my 76 TA and I never could make the car hook. It was bored .060" over and had a 4.25" stroke. the damm thing just made way to much power on the bottom end to hook. It was a monster on the top end too. But It never would hook. So I am hopping I will hook better on the bottom if I stay short stroked.

I have 4.125" dartons in my engine, done by JPR. If you do a search for darton pix as the title, there is a post with a picture of the block with the sleeves in it. Have almost 5k miles on the setup now and everything looks good, except my heads and tuning still need some work.

You can get additional info by searching for the post and reading that, or just searching for darton.

We have a set of Darton sleeves on special in the Sponsor section if you are interested. We can have them installed in a block also. They are the strongest sleeve system available at 4.125 they should take boost or spray without any issues. Email or call for any questions.
Thanks Nate
