Oil pressure drop significantly...not usually any knock unless it is real bad. Definite metal in oil. Drain the oil and look at it in the sunlight. It will look like it has gold or silver paint in it.

My pump went out at 6400 rpm during a run and I could feel it start to tighten up. My knock was real loud. 4 spun rod bearings. Watch the oil pressure. It would show some pressure then drop to zero.

well, this is definately not a rod, im pretty familiar with that noise. it's a constant whine, like a belt, but i've started it w/o any belts on and it's still there. the oil had run about 2 quarts low but never below 40psi @ idle and never less than 50 psi opened up. i drove it 20 miles home yesterday, w/o any problems, then when i pull it in the driveway, let it idle, this starts in.

I spun two main bearings back in 1999, oil pressure would fluctuate once the car was warmed up and it would knock around 2500 rpms and the oil looked like it had gray paint in it.

thanks for the imput guys, i think this might be something diffrent, maybe an oil pump issue or timing chain problem. the motor runs fine, i just havent driven it since this started.

I've spun a rod bearing once. The whine increased at higher rpms. Never had oil pressure drop, and did not experience any immediate, visible contaminates.
I used a stethoscope to help identify the location.

update:

got it most of the way apart last night, havent got the oil pan off as of yet, (man what a pain.) but it was definately not the pump. i took it all apart and checked it over, no issues, no forigen material. the funny thing is that there was NO metal in the oil, anywhere. but there was oil all over the underbody. definately low, but i still had 3-3.5 quarts in there. this is drivin me batty..

i spun two bearings and broke a piston last year. i had a light knock, metal in pan and the gray paint look in oil that pro stock john talked about.
