Unless you're dead set on new heads, and since you have some time, why not look for a set of good used SII's instead, for about the same $$$ as a new S1 head. Generally, there are alot of people upgrading at any given time of the year, and are selling the same good stuff that you'll pay a premium price for new.

Look for this kind of deal on Absolute/TEA/MTI/
ARE/GTP/Cartek..... all are good heads.
If you've been following any of the "this head is better than that head" threads, you'll see that most all of the head porters flow/power/ ET #'s are really pretty close.

Remember though, it's not all about the peak flow #'s or having the biggest valve you can shove in there. Cams need to be matched to heads, not the other way around. So if you think you may be doing a cam in the future, know what kind of cam is going to work with that head. There is good power to be made from some of the "baby cams" out there as long as thought has been given to the heads that feed it.

You could prolly even easier find a killer deal on a set of SI's, upgrade them to SII for a nominal fee, and still be on your way for less......just some food for thought. Spend some time reading the countless head threads in the archives, and learn more about what H/C combos work better than others, and why......

The market is evolving and improving. If you aren't buying until late summer, wait until you are within 2 months of your desired delivery date and shop seriously at point.

I tend to agree that good deals on used S2 heads are out there as well as good lower priced heads.

I never thought about buying a set of used stage 2 heads - that sounds like a good idea Thanks for the advice, guys! I do have a lot of time on my hands before I have enough money to actually make a decision on things, so I guess I'll just keep all my options open. I plan on sticking with my HotCam for now, so I guess I should look for some heads that would be most compatible with it.

Thanks again,

Default Advice on Stage 1 heads

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting some some "Stage 1" heads for my car some time late this summer (maybe early fall). I really can't afford "Stage 2" heads, so I'm lookin' for some quality Stage 1's at a reasonable price ($1400 or less). Any opinions on a good one that would work well with my set up?

So far my engine / drivetrain mods include:
Lid/filter, bellows, 85mm MAF, ported TB, LS6 intake, HotCam, LT's w/cats, BorlaMouth, 3.73s, Vig2800, TransGo, and custom tuning.

There are so many different heads out there to choose from, it's all very intimidating. Any feedback or advice you can share would be appreciated

Thanks!

Have you taken a look at TEA or Absolute Speed ?

Absolute

TEA

I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Raven, I think the TEA Stage 2 5.3's are hard to beat for the price. The dual springs in the TEA's make them an excellent bargin. Good Luck with your parts selection.

OK, you convinced me, Roy I guess I'll go for some stage 2 heads That means I likely won't be able to afford them until Christmas or so when I get my Holiday Bonus

Thanks again for the feedback guys
