Default 500+ RWHP, N/A, A4, Full Interior, Daily drivers............

Who's got one and what EXACTLY is your set-up?

Can you sit in traffic on a hot day with the A/C on for an hour?

Approximate gas mileage, CTY/HWY?

How much lope do you have?

Converter size and type?

Trying to figure something out,

Thanks

Well, my car got 25 mpg on the HWY when I drove it home from Orlando when it was done, I thought that was pretty good mileage for a stroker motor.

I just see allot of motors in peoples' sigs on this board while roaming around that have over 500 RWHP and claim that they're great daily drivers.

Are there any A4's with over 500 RWHP????

yes, but PaiN's car is far from being a "daily-driver". His MTI 422ci pulled 530 rwhp with the S1 hydraulic cam and a locked up converter though.

My Formula pulled 525 rwhp thru a cutout, 501 rwhp through the SLP dual-dual catback. Worked just fine as a daily-driver, in fact the new owner daily-drives the car. But, its a 6-speed

Mileage was 21 mpg with the MTI 434ci. The car currently has an MTI 427ci in it and I think Levi claimed it put down 26 mpg on his last trip.

Tony,
What would be considered a good RWHP and RWTQ for my ARE 436ci. I have a 242/242 .610/.610 114 lsa in there, it truly idles like a factory stock car. It dynoed only 466/467, I thought that was kind-a low.
How much bigger can I go cam-wise and still have a smooth idle? What cam and specs?
Also, my head porting might be able to get improved.

Am I just dreaming for a smooth idle daily driver and over 500 RWHP through my A4?

Thanks

You're power is down, but you might look at your exhaust before doing other things. An ORP and a cutout might hold the key to alot of power. In any case, that would put you on a comparable basis with most of the set-ups you are comparing your car too.

I assume that you have the other bolt-ons not listed (lid/ pulley / ported TB)

After that if you're tuning is good and you still only make 470 RWHP then it may be time to look at your heads or cam selection.

I have all the bolt-ons you listed, a custom 3" Y all the way back to the Magnaflow.

I already suspect that my heads aren't flowing what they're capable of. I should be flowing 330 cfm, right?

As far as the cam goes though, the motor is coming apart in a few weeks so the rings can get replaced, there toast (who knows why my bad luck I guess), so thats why I'm asking about cam upgrades. What cam could I go to and get a worthwhile HP increase without the car loping all over the place. I've been told that my cam is tiny for this motor, so how big can I go?

I didn't say it was haha, I just know its an A4 and dynoed over 500rwhp. perhaps this guy could look more in to pains setup so he can acheive the power level he desires

I had that same cam in my ARE 422ci iron block and did 475rwhp/505rwtq locked. I had dual exhuast.

I could have hit over 490rwhp with a stock rearend, radial tires, and a short belt... maybe 500rwhp with bigger headers.

I got around 20mph and once drove the car 350 miles in one day.

Just make sure your cats aren't clogged. I don't know if the magnaflow flows well or not, a cutout will be a big help if the catback is 3".

Since the motor is apart, I would have the heads looked at; especially the valve job. We all know that in the past year Wade improved the valve job and that has often added 20 cfm to the older ARE heads.

my thought on the cam is that 242/242 is a bit small, but it is not holding you back by 40 RWHP. If you're willing to give a little on idle, maybe a 248/252 112 would get you some power.

Lastly, if you're rings are toast, you are probably down on power.

Quickin, how can your rings be toast already? Man, I keep reading about messed up ARE engines.... makes me kinda sad cause they have made some really fast cars.

Like the others have said, put some offroads on there and run a bigger cam and have your heads looked at. I think with those issues addressed you'll be at 500RWHP.

My Random Tech high-flows are brand new. The rings are definitely bad, I'm burning 1.5 qrts every 300 miles and it's been like that since day one.

I think I'm gonna send my heads to Trevor Johnson for inspection and porting.

How rough is that cam you suggested? Is it an easy spot if you heard it idling? I have a 3200 stall so I don't want any problems with that.

I wish I knew the answer to that.

Me to.

Whats an offroad? I have the big Grot headers into a 3" custom Y, then a 3" pipe all the way back to the Magnaflow, how much better can that get????

What if I lost both Random Techs and put in 2 electric cutouts?
That would be like open headers, right?

What hp/tq gain would that give?

you wouldn't know till you got it dynoed. I'm pretty sure you will see gains with a cutout after the y pipe merges.

that cam someone suggested sounds HUGE

I wouldn't get more power if they were basically open at the end of the collectors where my Random Techs are right now, as opposed to just one cut out after the Y????
