Trying to decide if Milling my heads is worth it?
The Trans AM is putting down 480rwhp & 440rwtq. Its a stroked LS6 block (383 engine), 234/238-ish cam, AFR 205 heads installed out of the box, along with stock GM gaskets. Has all the bolt ons, headers, etc. see my link for those details if you want.
I have room to mill if I want, we measrued 2 years ago when the cam went in, that I could mill 0.024, which would take the heads from 66cc down to 62cc. I've read milling would favor torque and improve low end power
If that was the only change I was to make (along with an updated tune to match), what realistic gains should I expect, horsepower, torque & drivablity wise?

I don't think it would be worth all the time to take the heads off and put them back on. I don't see it making much of a differents maybe 10hp and 10 torque. Should drive the same.

No sir. 1pt in compression mean going from 10.4:1 compression to 11.4:1 compression. To figure yours we would need more info on your build. rwhp, 10-20rwhp, torque and throttle response would be more significant. It would be worth it IMO.

how about just using an .040 cometic gasket instead of miling the heads ? that will raise your scr/dcr as much as the head milling and you will be needing new gaskets anyways. just make both decks are good and clean/smooth and sealing shouldn't be an issue.

Honestly IMO its not worth it at this point. Your numbers are very stout. I'd be very suprised to see you gain more than a few ponies from milling .024... like 7/10's of a point? I think or in that area
Another thing to consider is resale of the heads if you ever decied to. Lot easier to sell an un milled head. It can go on a lot more combinations than a milled to 62cc head and he new owner can always have the milled. Just my thoughts on it.

I wouldnt spend that much time taking the engine apart with the power you are making...but if I were to change compression I woud use thinner gaskets such as an .045" or .040" Cometic. Like 99blancoSS said if you were to ever sell them its easier to sell them un milled. Im not sure what you would be charged to mill them but you could get the gaskets for $140 and your done...versus milling the heads, buying new gaskets anyway and getting the same or less power increase.
