5.3l with gmpp efi carb intake, 4150 tb what cam
Have a 69 camaro, just picked up a super nice 17,000 mile 03 5.3. I have a holley 4150 style throttlebody, and a gmpp single plane intake set up for efi on the way. I have a 6.0 I was going to build to use the intake throttlebody set up on, but ran across this 5.3 and figured I would go ahead and get the car going with it and build the 6.0 right. I wanted it to look like an old style motor under the hood, honestly that was the main motivation for that style intake tb. Have a t56, and 3.73 gear. What kind of cam should I be looking for with the 5.3. I read that the single plane 4bbl tb likes a different style cam that what would normally be used. I was thinking about just a 224r, or something like that, but what should I be looking for. Thanks.

Cam selection is pretty much limitless as as long as you still have the ability to have the fuel injection tuned on your application...Far as the single plane goes it should only affect bottom end torque IMO..With a few adjustments to your timing tables you can compensate for that..I would go with something on a 112..probably not too huge on the duration with that 5.3 though...Mine is a .236/.242 which is good size you can definately hear it and I still have good vacuum and idle at like 760-800..I had alot of people say I had gone too big but I like the power and cant get enough of the sound has really grown on me..I had comp grind mine its on XER lobes..

Not sure on an exact number figuire I dont have a gauge just stating that based off the fact that it has good pedal on the brakes and doesn't require the use of a vacuum canister or a vacuum pump..Some cams don't make hardly an vacuum due to overlap caused by huge duration
