I have a 402, just went to kooks 1 7/8 stepped to 2 inch headers this year. Originally, when I put the 402 in I had a set of 1 3/4 headers, y pipe and a LM1 That was loud, really loud.
This year with the bigger headers (with 3.5 inch collectors) I had a system built out of 3.5 inch pipe, and used 2 super 44 mufflers, we cut the ends off where they attach to the muffler case where they were 3.5 inches in diameter, so it's a true 3.5 inch system in and out. 2 seperate sections, comes on and off in about 10 minutes, and is amazingly quiet, quiet emough for englishtown's rules, and doesn't slow the car down from open headers at all. I didn't bother with the x or h pipe, as I am not a believer in them, and it certainly doesn't seem to be hurting things at all not having either.

if you're not going with true duals, go with the 4'' mufflex cat back. Expensive but the sound is worth it. On your y-pipe, make sure you use something like the flowmaster merge collector.

Being that you make the same power that I am, I can tell ya the 3.5 inch dual setup I have with the 44 series flowmaster mufflers would work very well, quiet enough so the car's not gonna get you pulled over every time you take it out, and it's not restricting the power at all, I ran the car open headers and with the exhaust on, and it's less then a tenth difference.

Ya can't see it on my sig pic? That's cause it's flat black, and tucked right up ![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
I don't really have any good pic's, but lemme see if the guy that fabb'ed it does, I know he took a couple when it was done.
th400 tranny, car makes about 465 to the tires, TH400, 4200 nitrous converter. It would be well over 550 with a M6 tranny I'm sure for a referance.

right out the sides, right in front of the rear tires. I aimed it right out the sides, but it's far enough under the car so you can't see it at all. A little flat black gas grill paint, and it's invisable unless ya shove your head under the car, then you see 2 big *** stove pipes LOL.

If you saw the pinks allout from etown, the pewter transam was mine, that's the best I can do. Search you tube for pinks allout englishtown, there's a couple videos of the car there you can get good idea of the sound.
I haven't run the car n/a all year, but it runs the 1/8th at about 6.1 @ 114, runs the full 1/4 at 9.5 @ 142 That's witha 150 hit
Last year it went 10.5 n/a off the footbrake with radials, off the transbrake with a slick, in cold weather and in hot. Very consistant.

im probably going to be running kooks 1 7/8 stepped to 2" then 3.5" piping to spintech race "quiet" series 3.5" mufflers and then having it run out the side in front of the rear tires and also painting them flat black
