Default Best heads for an LSX ironblock 427

Hi guys I am pretty new to this site but seems to be a lot of knowledge on here so I would like to get some ideas on what you all think are the best heads for my new set up. I am building A 427 lsx Ironblock with Callies crank and rods and wiseco pistons. C/R will be around 9.5 or 10 also depending on the heads. I am leaning toward LS7 heads seeing how now you can get the Fast LSX r 102mm intake or is it better to still just get cathedral style ls1 heads. I already have Stainless Works 1 3/4 headers and realize I might have to go bigger later. I know My engine builder with also have A lot of ideas but he is also asking me what I am willing to spend of course and which options may be the best bang for my buck so to speak instead of going crazy with this. I know you can spend as much in heads as I have already spent in my bottom end...

is this going to be an NA motor or power adder? ETP Canted Valve heads have proably the highest cfm I've seen if you can get them anymore. . . Otherwise there's always the All Pro heads.

best bang for the buck are the L92's hands down unless you're going solid roller but that cr you want I don't see that happening.

It will be N/A with some spray in the future possibly. I was going to go with a Maggie or Vortec but with the motor and trans upgrades looks like that money is long gone.

Thanks for the info, but are there really any good aftermarket intakes for those heads. I was thinking about using the L92's but worried about not having the intake options.. I know they are working on one from Fast but not sure when it will be out and don't want to buy a factory one just to buy the aftermarket later...

For your build, I would be using a set of TEA Trick Flow 245 heads.

there are a couple GMPP, Vic Jr.
Like I said, you can't beat the L92's price/perfromance combo.
FWIW, I run mid 9's N/A with the a ported stock L76 intake, 90mm tb and 85mm maf.

Thanks I will look into them more than I have. That is why I wanted to ask. I know some of you on here are running great times and have really good combo's already your setup looks sweet and you are running great times not trying to get to that level but don't want a slouch for what I am spending. Thanks again for your help

TEA Trickflow 245 heads very very nice or if your looking for even more power Call TEA and get the custom TrickFlow R heads But the 245 should be enough for most anything

If you are on a tight budget then the CNC'd L92 heads from GMPP are hard to beat for the money.... SDPC claims they flow over 350 @ .700 and they come assembled for about what other bare castings would cost.

If you have to have the best set of lungs possible... there is only one way to go in my opinion... ALL PRO / WCCH! We did a TON of research and talked to a LOT of people before making the decision.

Richard at WCCH just set up our heads and they flowed 409 @ .780 on the intake... and yes those are REAL #'s...

Good luck with your project!

I'm running TEA TFS 245's on my 454 and can say for sure that they work well. Nice thing is that they hold there value well if you decide to go a different route in the future.

Holy bigger is better crowd. 245 is alot of head for an NA 427. OP is only gonna run 10:1 compression. If you are building an LSX and want the 6 bolts per cylinder, run the TFS235 cathedral and top it off with a ported FAST92/NW90 combo. If 6 bolt heads are not required, run the AFR225's which will fit just like stock and everything will bolt up just like stock.

Big engines need to get alot of air. 17/8 headers are a good idea also. Engines are a air pump, the more you can pump the more power you can make. I'de bump up that compression a little also. FAST92 ported to accept Nick Williams new 96mm TB or Rev Extreme's 95mm TB. You can breathe through a straw or a hose,it's all up to you.
