I really like these valve covers BUT I even more like easily removing all the coils as one set to reach the right side spark plugs. And my heat-sinked truck coils (which I really like) won't fit them.

Bringing back an old thread. Why do they only come with 3 coils per side? Weird.

Also, if any of you have bought the 3rd cover for the coils & are selling bare covers. Let me know, I'm looking for both sides.

We honestly do not know why GM sells them this way. Wish I had a better answer for ya.

IMO, OEM or aftermarket valve covers having coil mount cast on one piece is simplicity in packaging from the manufacturing stand point. Certainly not having the best interest in component longevity associated with direct heat conduction.

So I choose to do it these way started with OEM covers:

Engine heat is free to radiate from the covers and the base for the coil relocation brackets are on non metallic base to avoid direct heat conduction. Wiring harness for both coil/fuel injection are isolated within marine grade split loom to protect from engine heat as well.

That is just my interpretation derived from my own opinions.

While your work looks very good and the level of craftsmanship is obvious, I can't fathom any gains from keeping the coils cooler. Due to heat radiated from the engine and the heat blown onto the engine from the radiator, I doubt the coils are actually any cooler. These coils are designed to operate at the high temperature of the engine bay.

Other makers (as well as GM in OHC engines) use the COP setup where the coils are pressed into the valve covers and certainly absorb even more heat without issue.

The only way to make ignition coils perform "better" is swapping them to higher output coils and a tune to take advantage of them. And these gains have been hit or miss.

Lets just say that there is no increase in performance.

What does engine heat do to plastic, wiring and wiring connectors in the long term? Ever break off connector locks while disconnecting?

I did not do a before and after temperature check with any instrument, but touching by hand while engine is already hot is doable as compared to before relocation. Cool down after is certainly takes a whole lot less time.

Knowing the simple fact that the same components are no longer exposed to direct heat conduction, insulated as well as isolated while in the some hostile environment is enough to satisfy me.

Manufacturers will streamline and simplify component packaging anyway they can to save a buck and increase their profit margin. But when I see flaws, then I will do what I can to improve any given situation.

But to each his own.

Well I bought the one with the oil fill hole from my local dealer thinking it would help my issue, it didn't. So I have it for sale, $140 shipped.

Not sure if I missed it, but do these come with the valve cover bolts or gaskets?

What is that pictured above, is that a kit that can be purchased, or just for display?

That's how they lay-out the parts for engine builds in GM's engine assembly plant. It can't be purchased like that, but can be ordered separately from a dealer.
