Help, cracked the starter munt on my 2001 LS1 Camaro
When changing the starter, the mount (the thread for the bolt), which appears to be part of the block cracked in half on the short bolt. I got the thing bolted in as tight as it will go and the car strarts, but I'm sure this is only a termporary fix. Someone help, please! Thank you.

There really is no easy fix to this as far as I know. Take the engine out prep the ear of the block you have broke off and weld it back on. Other than that you are taking a chance at it breaking off again and again if you try to weld that in the car not enough room to get a TIG setup in there I would say and a spool gun for aluminum just makes a mess and not a really strong weld in my opinion just more of a patch work job. Sorry to hear this, but I am not aware of any other way to put it back on. Maybe if you just get some high strength locktite like some 3/4-1 inch fastener strength you can make it hold what threads it has but to do that your gonna have to take it off and risk it not going back on.

por-15 has a two part epoxy thats like clay bars...stuffs extremely strong...for now you could just fill the bolt hole in with that and then drill and tap it. i'd try that before pulling the motor..stuff wont run on you like a jb weld or something

I have run into this problem on more than one car with an aluminum block. I'm not sure who in this thread is being serious or not so I will reserve my recommendations until someone asks a serious question. wyatt318mopar had the most proper answer. There are a few things that need to be considered so if someone really needs help, let me know.

I don't see that calling anyone names going to fix your busted up ride. I won't bother with offering anymore help for you in the future. Good luck push starting that heap. Your obviously not a mechanic or a welder go buy yourself a Huffy and save us the headache

I see- you throw out insults on a HELP board, then when someone calls you an asshead for doing it, they are the ones "calling you names". Why would you insult someone who came on a help board asking you for help in the first place? Are you really that much of a d'ckhead and don't even realize it? seriouslly....
