Default L92 = LS3 = LS9 (blocks)? all 3 the same?

I ordered an L92 short block in December 2008 from SDPC. They informed me GM changed the part number of the L92 three times, which is the reason why GM has not shipped them any L92 or LS3 blocks, or so I am told.

Is anyone else having problems receiving these blocks in bare form? If this is the case and SDPC is not blowing smoke at me (I have no reason to believe this is the case, they have been very good to work with), does anyone know of a date when GM will ship these things? I've been without my SS since July 2007 when the LS1 blew, and throw in a 15 month tour in Iraq, and I just want to drive it again. But until this block is shipped to SDPC, I will be without.

I called SDPC today and was told that the L92 and the LS3 now share the same part number as the LS9 block (I understand that the diamentions are all 'equal').

In summary, when will GM ship blocks out to vendors?

Thanks

I understand that the L92 and LS3 are the same, with the LS9 being the strongest of the three. From what SDPC told me is that GM has done away with the L92 and LS3 blocks and is going solely with the LS9. I can only presume GM is doing this to minimize manufacturing costs.

Can someone verify this information is true?

I know the LS9 has oil squirters, different from the LS3. Also, in the GMPP catalog, the LSA has a different block PN than the LS3, and the LS9 doesn't even have one listed.

I am new here, but have been hanging out for awhile looking for info on my project (LS3 into a 1970 Camaro). For once I have something to contribute...

I read somewhere (Hot Rod magazine, maybe?) that in the development stages of the LS9 they ended up strengthening the bottom end over the previous LS3 blocks in order to withstand the increased power, and that these improvements were going to be incorporated into the LS3 also, beginning sometime in 2009. So...this means that this year's LS3 block is going to be a little better than last year's. I don't know, but I would expect that this would apply to the L92 as well. It would seem to make sense for them to just make one block.

I spoke with Scoggin' last Monday. They received a shipment of blocks the week before . They also informed me that I am getting the LS3 block (I ordered the L92 with no change in price) and that, yes, it is a stronger block than last years block.

When I spoke with them they informed me that my block was in the machine shop, then on to assembly and should ship by the end of the first week of March.

Bringing this one way back from the dead...

It looks like there are 2 common casting numbers on the 6.2 blocks, 12584724 and 12621766. Does anyone know which casting is more recent or better casting?

I received some here on 8-12-16 and the casting number shows 12621766 on the engine case.
