I've seen so many people killed there for being drunk and stupid, it's not worth it to me to put my family at risk, because of someone being stupid behind the wheel.
Now I'm not saying that everyone who goes to the dunes is bad, but it just takes one person to ruin it for me.
I grew up racing in the desert on a motorcycle, and just love the desert vs. sand.
So you rip around just like off-roading? Bumps, hills, rocks and trails???

Thats pretty cool, always wondered about that fun factor.

Our 457 or 460 would power that quite nicely.

Mid to low 9's in a 3300 lb car on 91 octane, the 460 will handle a 200 shot of n2o as well. $16,000 for the 457, $16750 for the 460, both complete intake to oil pan. These are HKE precision racing engines. One of the finest you will find in the world. The TFS 245's can be changed for All Pro or ET heads. I run a 457 with All Pro heads in my personal car. Just finishing the project up now, should have some numbers in a little bit.

I know you said you had the top end already, we can make the engine a short-block if need be or we can take your top end and install it for you and make sure things are done right.
I would stay in aluminum though, although the weight difference is 100 lbs. Maybe take that into consideration with the rest of the vehicle weight.

LSX iron your looking at 454 and only 2k for block costs. With our 457 or 460 your looking at about 3k in block costs. 5000-3000= $2000 savings to go elsewhere. That would be the reason to go re-sleeved vs RHS for most people. (to answer that question)

pm me if you would like more information, HKE has some of the fastest and finest precision built engines in the world.

For a Sand Rail, you want to stay on "top of the sand, " not in it. So weight makes a big difference. Couple that with the transaxle, CV's, shocks, engine, yada, yada at the back of the car and very little weight up front... "wheelie machine." Here's a pic of how much crap you can have at the back of a Sand Car.

Sweet powerplant right there.

I never realized the Baja type off-roaders were 5,000 pounds. Thats crazy heavy, but I guess they have to built like tanks to handle the abuse.

Little update here... we've been looking at a few things and the RHS block turns out is not that much more than a re-sleeved LS2. The Warhawk is a lot more but the RHS is less than the Warhawk. We're going to spec out our new big daddy to the 457 utilizing the RHS. Should be about a 500 cubic inch behemoth for about $2500 more than our 457.
Stay tuned The LSx world just got better !

Actually, you can sleeve iron blocks. Popular for old Vette guys when trying to keep their numbers matching block.

You can find sleeved 512 blocks every once in a while on E-Bay - they sell for a lot less than a non-sleeved version.
