Default What ICL are people running with L92 heads

Hey all i've been playing with dialling my cam in on my VE(G8 ute) while i'm waiting for pushrods from US. What i'm interested in is the ICL intake centreline people are dialling there cams in too for the L98/LS3.

My cam is a 239/247 comp lsr 114 lsa with cam card ICL set at 110. After degreeing in cam it's sitting at 111, i've advanced it and retarded it 2 degrees checking valve events etc more out of interest etc. I've read i a few forums that with these heads(ie big intake valve) its better to have the valve open a bit later than the likes of LS1 heads etc.

Interesting read
https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamo...omparison.html

Currently have it at 113 ICL and have good PTV clearence both sides and was thinking of leaving it there have been advised that 111 ICL would be OK.

Any thoughs suggestions???? Car is running ported heads 11.5:1 comp fast manifold etc etc It's for weekend fun track days

Cheers Paul

Don't care about ICL, that number is only derived from the correct intake lobe closing point (ABDC). A 400 incher with those heads likes 50-52 ABDC. Something in the 370 range likes less. 346 (cathedral ports) like no more than 44-46 (these figures are all @.050) . In your case, with that big lobe on an LS3, the DCR you gain by advancing the cam will more than likely make up for correct ABDC. I would have not chosen that cam for an LS3 (but that's me).. I like high 220's low 230's with big lift...a little less peak but way more midrange.... Hopefully, your going for all out power, launching at high rpm to get the most out of that...

Just looked it up and ran through the DCR cal..Anyway, 50.5 for 111ICL and 52.5 for 113ICl. These are for .050 figures. Go for the 111ICL. You'll get more DCR and your in the area for the correct ABDC....

Did a quick dcr using your SCR of 11.5 with that cam. 8.6 with 111. 8.45 with 113. For more of a track only 8.6 is better for sure..right on the edge for 92 octane...For race fuel, no problem... LS3's like DCR as long as it does not affect total timing...Timing is better for the bigger ports than a little more DCR, if you can't get total timing up over 26 degrees then you should back down dcr. As long as you use something that will allow timing (cooling system and real good tune or gas) then go for it. On my Lt1's I run 8.7 for the street. Street LS1's I use 8-8.3 (depending on area..eg hotter areas). 8.5 is getting close to having to back down timing...which you don't want with those big ports... Like I said, these are just some quick calcs using 11.5 this really depends on what your real compression is after checking everything ...usually less.......
