That article mainly talks about underdrive pulley's and their effect on timing chains. At least that's what I got from it. Most of the builds I've seen, everyone is just using an LS2 timing chain which is around 40 bucks. This is what I'll be using.

Takes alot to break them. Usually it's caused by a bad tensioner, but over time they can stretch. Kind of like a motorcycle chain, you always want to keep the slack minimal. A broken timing chain is bad, but I have never seen one actually break. Belts on the other hand, I have seen break. Push come to shove, if you're spending over 50 bucks for a timing chain, might as well get a dual. This will for surely handle the spring pressure you see with dual valve springs. Plus it will be adjustable.

People can think what they want, but everything about my install, parts, and driving was perfect. I am a ME by trade, so I am **** by nature and I still had a failure. Buy the strongest parts you can and pray for the best.

we had three different types of chain break on the same motor and it was the underdrive that was at fault fitted a std one and problem solved !!! this motor was a road race motor that spent a lot of time around 4000 rpm it broke single ls2,dual somthing and a uprated single. i used a c5r jwis chain and std pulley and been good ever since,

The LS3 chain is the same PN as the LS2 chain. Same PN as the LS7, 5.3, and any other GM LS chain as standard replacement now. And lest we forget as well the LS9 uses the same chain.

Harmonics kill timing chains. Not RPM and HP. One guy broke a Katech C5R chain and what do you know, he was using an ASP underdrive damper/pulley. Get an ATI damper or run the stock one and you will never look back. A C5R chain would be overkill, but why not since you are already in there. One of the best chains made.
