Default LS3 build questions strokkker vs blower

I am considering re-powering my 73 Pantera with an LS3. My HP goal is around 650rwhp. My question is do you think it would be better to go with a stock LS# block and ad the new LS9 super charger from GM or take an LS3 and stroke it to 427CI and spend the money I would spend on the blower on rotating assembly, valve train, pistons , valves etc. I have always liked engines that rev high and I know increasing stroke increases piston speed which will reduce total rpms. I know some will say just get an LS9 but that is outside my budget ( I can build the LS# with the stroker or the blower for considerably less then the LS9. SO in the interest of horse power across the rpm range, fuel economy, driveability (on pump gas) what is the consensus. I have to rebuild my ZF transaxle ( change the gear ratios and the pinion gear for final gear ratio to reach top speeds. at 5500 rpm I am limited to 159 mph so I can get higher speed by having an engine with higher torque at a higher rpm (like 7200 to 7500) or just change the pinion gear ( which is like changing the rear) or change the gear ratios in 2nd thru 5th and the pinon gear to get tho optimum gear ratios and shift points across the board to get the best performance and use of the Horse power and torque. The ZF is the most expensive part on the car and modifying it is not cheap.
Any opinions or suggestions are welcome.

theres only one k in stroker.

get an ls3, put new pistons in for boost, then make sure the exhaust is up to the task, since that blower will flow better than most headers can handle.

Default Typo

I know how to spell I just don't type very well.
I guess not many people are interested in A Pantera with an LS motor. I am not getting many suggestions (1 to be exact) My plan was to go with 180 degree headers. I have hall big bore headers and mufflers (Pantera Proprietary) now.

650RWHP is doable but it's not going to be a "drive like stock" build. FI for your goals is probably the way to go.

Just my $.02

I got a LS2 built by Turn Key Engines in CA. The motor is a 408 with a Kenny Bell 2.8L blower on top. On pump gas it made 778. I think this would be a great motor for what you looking for. The motor has power right from idle.

Go to Super Chevy web site and search Project Getaway. Their you will see the engine build with details.

actually it's very doable.I got one that fits that bill.460'' RHS shortdeck block,c5r heads, custom intake.730bhp and idles like stock.the only downside is the $35,000.00 price tag.

we also got this nice 2300 package-makes 900bhp and idles like stock

What is your intended usage?

The reason I ask is a heat management issue, with a stroker you will have more heat versus a stock config, and with forced induction more so.

When I did my rebuild I could've gone twin turbo or SC but opted for a stroker because the additional power would have been harder to control on the track and I was concerned about heat as I was roadracing in south Texas at the time.

650 rwhp NA is going to be a little tricky. Going to have to be a faily radical build. FI is going to be the best way to go. Forged bottom end, a descent set of heads and a blower.

Forged ls3 with a d1sc sounds about right. Hell even a cam meth ls3 can get you past 650whp with a d1sc. Supercharged is the right choice.

For the strip and street yes I concur but not for roadracing unless you plan accordingly with judicious use of coolers and definately an upgraded cooling system.

You could do an LS3 with a stock stroke (3.622) bore it to 4.080 have a nice 380 inch big bore, stock stroke bottom end without breaking the bank.

Have WCCH do yo a set of L92(LS3) heads with lightweight intakes, run a solid roller valvetrain and produce 600 streetable horsepower with a 7500-8000 redline.

That will be plenty of power in the car without the expense and heat of supercharging, and the RPM will keep you out of the gearbox while still giving you the top speed you want.
