Default Considering a LS3 416 Stroker Rotating Assembly I REALLY NEED SOME ADVISE

Heres my situation. Blew the motor in my 01Z last month. Decided Friday I was just going to buy a LS6 to replace. Purchased one that will need to be freshened up and then today come across this deal. My problem is I can buy this but will financially put myself in a bind until some stuff sells. I want to offer the guy $2700 for it all. If he takes it am I getting the deal of a life time, or just saving a few bucks? With a big cam and good heads how much HP can I expect out of this setup? I currently have Lingenfelter 243 heads that are milled to 62cc. They were great on my small 346ci but I dont think will be ideal on a LS3. I see allot of guys running L92's and such which are very reasonable so I might do new heads. Just curious if I should jump on this deal. All is brand new.

- Brand New GM LS3 bare block
- Callies Compstar 4.00 Stroker Crankshaft (24x)
- Scat "H" Beam 6.125" Rods
- Manley Platinum Series 416 cid Stroker Piston Set: Dish-10cc
- Ackerly & Childs Moly File Fit Rings
- Clevite Main Bearing Set
- Clevite Rod Bearings
-Whole Assembly is balanced ($227.00 option at Scoggin Dickey)

I just bought the same setup as you from TSP but with no block and I got Compstar rods and Wiseco pistons and it cost me 2500 including shipping, so I don't know if that helps your decision or not.

Yeah I have been talking with Matt over at Texas Speed all morning and he said if I can get it, go for it. If the seller accepts my offer I am driving to Sacramento tonight. HAHA

I think I am going to pass. he is in no hurry to sell and his $3200 OBO is 3100. I spoke to Matt and he listed the following prices which are way off from your guys calculations???
Crank $850
Rods $500 (if the have ARP 2000bolts)
Pistons/rings $800
Block $1400
Balanced $227
main bearings $85
rod bearings $140

That comes out to about $4000 ???

Keep in mind when you buy it all together and have it balanced as an assembly, most of these shops throw a big package discount on it to save you money as compared to buying it outright. I think it's still a decent deal!

I paid $2200ish for:
callies crank 4.1"
compstar Rods
Manley pistons
ackerly and childs rings
main bearings
rod bearings
arp rod bolts
and balancing from Scoggin Dickey

http://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-d...er/ls3ra416d10

bought an L92 block on ebay for $700 shipped

Then I paid 1400$ for assembly, machine work, arp main studs, coated bearings and pistons.

Hope that helps... $3100 is no deal

In the OP list of parts, Scat rods are not my choice of rods so I wouldn't pay for something I really don't want. I paid 2500 for my rotating from TSP I got a whole longblock L92 out of an Escalade with 17000 miles for 800 bucks and my engine builder is putting it together for me for $500 (I do phone work so we traded on some work he needed). I just had the heads that came with the longblock sent to TSP to get ported and a spring upgrade. I don't even know what they charged me for doing that, I just told them to put it on the card .

Now I have cold feet. HAHA Guy called me back after I offered him $2900 in a text and I didnt answer. I got 450RWHP out of my LS6 with my Lingenfelter heads and .228/.232 .588/.575 113 cam. Some think with the bigger cubes I will net about 30-40 RWHP. I was hoping to get more like 70-80. For the money I might as well just rebuild my LS6. Damn what to do.

If you use that same cam then yes, you will net only 30-40 rwhp with those ls6 heads. You will have good power under the curve though.

I say sell that cam and get you a rectangular port specific cam and use a set of L92 heads. TSP has them for 1299. There are guys pushing 520-540 rwhp thru autos with 416's. I hope to be around that mark when i am done. All the small stuff is nickel and diming me to death though. Different injectors, different intake, upgrading to 1 7/8 headers etc.etc.

I already planned to ditch the cam for something bigger. Also planned to ditch the heads for PRC, TEA, AFR235, etc... I dont want to go with a rectangular port because I simply love my QTP headers. As silly as it sounds I am building my heads around my headers. HAHA Damn I think I might just buy this motor and sit on it. I wish someone would say. DAMN TEDDY IS I HAD $3000 I WOULD BUY IT IN A HEART BEAT. HHAHAHAHA

Rectangular intake ports. Exhaust are round (D shaped). Headers are the same.

Hey Teddy, has anyone ever told you you think to much?

We can sure get that for you. We DO have some 427 LS3 assemblies already done....you can pm me for pricing if you want.

We can also set you up on the heads and everything else as well and get you a package deal on it.

OR we can build an entire engine like in THIS thread for a good price as well. Ready to go, no guessing involved!

Let us know!

My only real advice it not to take on too much debt. FInd a nice take out LS6 or LS2 and drop it in.

I saw that LS3 deal you are talking about on the for sale threads here on LS1tech. I dont know if that is the best deal but its still pretty good. But definitely not "deal of a lifetime" material..

^^^ What he said if its not a super deal then don't get it. If it only costs a little more brand new then get it brand new that way you are the only one who has used the product, I have bought stuff here that was supposed to be barely used and when I get it, it looks like somebody has used it in an endurance race.

Don't think too hard on this one, just pick one engine and go with it. Whether it be putting your motor back together or getting this one. Don't be like me. I went from putting my motor back together, to building a 408 iron block turbo, to building a 416, then back to building my 346 back up and then finally back to where I am now, building the 416.

I would just put your ls6 back together to be able to enjoy the car for right now and over the winter build your 416 to put in the car in the spring to enjoy next summer. My car has been broke since last August with me changing my mind so much. I miss my car
