Default RHS 427 Road Race Motor

I am building An RHS based 427, which will be used in a road racing environment. I am using a Katech Torquer cam. What would be the best lifter I could get for this application. I know a lot of people like Morel, but which ones. I need a link bar type. This may see 7000 rpms from time to time, and always sustained high rpms.

http://www.thunderracing.com/shop-by...train/Lifters/

The RHS literature indicates the same lifter bore as an LS7 (0.842 inch) as well as material available for installation of a 1.060 busing for keyed lifters (such as Jesels).

5206-hyd

Lunati sells another version - 5294-Hyd which is designated as a high-rpm version. This is apprently for road racing. It is also sold by CC Performance as the Morel "Ultra Pro". The specifci physical difference is not clear since the sales literature for 5206-Hyd indicates that is for high-rpm operation.

I cant remember off hand. The Warhawk uses one with a zigzag tie bar and 5206 will not work. I think we have used that number on the RHS as well. I will find out which one it is. I sell them too and have for a long time.

The reason I am asking is because a friend of mine built A RHS based motor and the engine builder used the Morel Street lifter (5290-STRT). Recently at Sebring, I think he may have had a lifter failure. The engine is being taken apart now. This motor does not spin past 6500 rpm, but does have sustained high rpms and I thought a lifter designated as a street lifter would not be appropriate in this application.

Is that the cheaper one? How did it fail? I never use those and they are not the same as the real Morels.

I only use 5206 or similar. The 5290 is not the same as the other Morels stuff and even the wheels are smaller. I don't know who really makes that one?

Took the head off the engine today. The pin holding the tie bar broke. One lifter won't come out of the lifter bore. The other spun and damaged the cam. The link bar is stamped "Engine Works". The engine had @ 17 hours on it. The engine builder says it is a 5290 -STRT but I don't know enough about the morel line of lifters to determine which one should have been used.

I'd be surprised to see a link bar cme off anything but that lifter is not like the other Morels we ahve been using for years. I was surprised to even see it available but I guess they wanted qamore economical lifter to sell as well. Maybe you can post a pic of it.
