Default LS3 Pontiac Solstice bolt on questions

Greetings,

I recently had an LS3 swap done on an 08 Solstice. Ive been searching this forum for ideas for some basic bolt on HP. Im finding that there are many different ways to go about this.

It is mostly a daily driver in the spring and summer. I plan on doing some autox and a few track days here and there.

It is a stock LS3 crate motor, clutch is upgraded and Im using the T56 tranny. It has not been dyno tuned as of yet.

Im not interested in adding a turbo or supercharger and would like to see what kind of results I can get with the stock cam if possible.

That said, are intake/exhaust modifications and a dyno tune worth the expense if Im sticking with the stock cam? Im really only looking to get 400-420HP to the wheels.

Or should I just keep saving and go with a mild cam/intake/header combo?

A cam-only swap can get you well within your target range. If you do cam/headers/exhaust, you should be able to get 450-500 at the wheels. In either case, a tune would be mandatory.

I would like to see a full exhaust, full intake and then go from there. I bet you will be around 410rwhp then if you do a mild cam i could see 450rwhp with out much of a problem.
Who did the swap? What rear end are you using? I want to see pictures!

Would porting the existing intake get me there or do you recommend replacing it all? And would I need to port the TB?

Performance AutoWerks did the swap. The diff is the stock LSD. The eventual plan is to upgrade it and the axles.

If you go to www.solsticeforum.com and search you can find a few guys who have done this sucessfully on their own.

Mechanically its an easy swap. It gets technical once you get to the ECU and wiring harness. Performance AutoWerks (they did my car) now sells a DIY kit that will eventually have all of the custom parts you need. You just gather the non custom pieces and assemble it.

For an LS3, intake (which it appears you have), long tube headers and a good tune should put you right around 400whp, especially with an M6. I am just short of that with a stalled A6, off bottle, on a canned tune. Ported TB and intake manifold would help, but should not be needed.

Thanks to all for the advice. Looks like headers and a tune are next on the mod list .

Hehe... I don't think a Maggie will fit. A FAST Intake would boost power a bit. And take an hour or two, remove the throttle body and take some sandpaper and file down all the roughness with in the TB. Increasing oncoming airflow helps greatly no matter what who says. You could also pick up a Methanol kit off eBay or something. Cold IAT=HP.
