Need help guys. Bought a 98 ss with a 418 ls3. I came from the turbo buick community so im sort of new to the ls world but am definetely impressed. Motor has ported ls1 heads and a fast 90. Im wanting to change heads and intake for some more power. Not sure if i should change them for something else or not and if i do change them what should i change to? The heads are stage 2 patriot heads. 205 intake valve. Ported fast 90. Bottom end is unbeleivable on the street. Complete torque monster. I took it to the track on uniroyal tigerpaws (what came on the car). Left at an idol and pedaled it out til about second gear. With very little spin it went 11.69 @ 122.56. Happy with the time considering it was on horrible street tires but couldnt a lot more power be made on stock ls3 heads and a stock ls3 intake? Im confused by the back and forth on fast 102 vs ls3 intake. So all in all, whats the best head/intake package to pick up the most power and not just waste some money. I feel the heads and intake on it now are just too small. Id be fine to lose a little bottom end if i can make it up on the top end. My goal is to go tens on motor with some actual tires.

The 11.69 was with a 1.82 short time though
If it was a 11.69 with a 1.9 or something id be a lot happier but i think as it sits its probably a 11.0 or 11 teen car. Any ideas on what head/intake combo?

You are starting off with a great motor. But bigger heads and intake will make a big difference. I still like the cathedral port heads.
Do you know the cam specs.
TEA TFS 235 Heads are hard to beat.
Intake depends on Street/Strip or Strip Only.
Fast for street, Vic Jr for strip.

I was told its a 244/248 @ 50 with 615 lift and 112 lobe separation. Does that help? Do you guys think if i was to put on scoggins ls3 ported heads and a stock ls3 intake my car would pick up? what would it do to the low end? thanks

I think that is a mild cam for a 418. But with your heads and intake it's a good combo, for a street car. Do you have a stall, and what gears. I think right now with a stall and some DR's, you will be close to 10's now.
If you want to change the heads and intake. I would also change out the cam, to match the new heads and intake.
That cam is more of a cathedral port cam, so putting a LS3 head and intake on it would not be a good thing. IMO.
Do some research, and see if you want to go cathedral or rectangle port heads, then get a cam spec for the heads and intake.
The combo is what makes the power.

What cam, head, and intake would you suggest for a consistent 10.7 or 10.8 car? The car has a "4000" bte stall but the tuner said it felt more like a 3600 so im not completely sure. The gears are 3.73s. The motor is completely forged rotating assembly. Its got JE's with steel top rings for spray. I think its ready to handle quite a bit but not sire what to throw at it. I drive this monster every day to high school so im trying to retain some streetability but then again im not too picky
Im actually looking at a th-400 right now for her.

Well i asked for these things for Christmas. Seems if they ever materialize they would be perfect lolol! But in all seriousness, anyone know what the projected pricing is on these?

I would maximize what you got now, before you start throwing money at it.
Get some tires first and see where your at. My girl has run a 10.9 at that mph with a 1.55' 60'.

Cathdral ports will make more torque at lower RPM but require a bigger cam to make top end power when compared to R port heads.
I'd just get a set of TFS 235's w/powered guides and Ti retainers, and new .125 thick wall pushrods from Manton or Trend.
You'll want to know what cc your current heads are also.

My heads are currently 68cc i believe. Is it possible to change the heads and head gaskets to drop the compression from 11:1 to 10:1? Like to possibly put a little boost to it without changing pistons
