Default Fly cutting / valve relief - LS2 block with LS3 heads

What's the recommended amount to fly cut / valve relief the top of the pistons when running an LS3 head to be safe to run any cam later on?

Also, the pistons that are in the block I have already have some fly cutting done. What is the best way to measure how much or how deep it's been cut already?

thanks.

It depends on the cam,you don't want to go crazy cutting away
Get your cam, check ptv clearances and then do it

I see. Any advice on how to check how much my current pistons have already been fly cut to?

Use modeling clay to make an impression and measure off that

It really depends how much overlap the cam your running has. Do you know?

No idea on cam yet. Just seeing if there was a standard depth on fly cutting the heads.

I suppose I just have to measure the depth that they are fly cutted to now and go from there.

Any other suggestions on how to measure without using modeling clay?

You could always use the end of a set of dial calipers and measure from the piston face to the deepest point of the relief (middle of the "eyebrow")

That's about as scientific of a way as using modeling clay, And measuring I suppose..
