Default Lifters?!? CTS VR or LS7?!?

Okay so i have read 100s of threads...

Some say the ctsv lifters are junk... Others have never had a problem...

Some say ls7 are more that enough to suffice... And they are half the price

the cam i may use is a 232/236 .600/.600 113lsa with dual springs. The rev limited will be kept the same (more than likely)

What do ya think?

Ive never had an issue with LS7's. Have them in my LS3 now with a 231/236 .641/.615 cam. If I upgrade the heads I am thinking of link bar lifters just for peace of mind. I think the LS7's do handle most street car duties just fine. All in the valvetrain geometry and springs pressures IMO.

You'll be fine with the LS7 lifters. I would stay away from the Caddy lifters all together. I had a set without issue but they were a lot more noisey for sure. Also they are not as robust in most areas and thats why they are lighter for the higher sustained revs...

LS7 lifters.

Also: https://sdparts.com/details/scoggin-...-center/sdlslk

or just lifters: https://sdparts.com/details/gm-perfo...parts/12499225

But I'd replace the guides too unless they are pretty low mileage.

Does anyone drill holes in the guides to help with oil flow?
A guy did it on his ls3/l99

Glad to heat oyu are using us, thanks! You should get some lifters thrown in to save you money on shipping

Some people drill the guides, some people don't. Personally, I don't drill them but I don't have anything against it.

How common are lifters spinning in their bores? I know it happens but is it an issue? I think valve float is the main thing that kills lifters at high rpm. the plunger and roller get beat up and ends up eating a cam lobe. Since most common LSx vale springs used have wimpy pressures I guess it happens more then it should.

The people at Brian Tooley know their stuff and those lifters look solid. Might try those if i get heads later.

FWIW: I was one of the first to try the Caddy Racing lifters. I pulled them out after about 3k miles when a couple of them got noisy. They're really made for mild lobes and extremely light valve trains. I run PAC 1521 springs, 11/32 PR's and currently have YT's. The YT's are coming out this weekend - I've broken 2 from 2 different sets - and are being replaced with CHE rockers.

I run Morel Link bar lifters now with no issues.

I dont get people! why would you go cheap on one of the most important parts, do it once do it right. Spend the extra $130 and get the Morel 5290 link bar lifters and be done! I just got mine from Brian Tooley and the price is great. Anything aftermarket should not be using plastic trays and stock lifters.

I've never had a problem with the caddy lifters other than how noisy they are. Can't really go wrong with a set of LS7's. Especially for that application.

I agree. I think for most applications the LS7 lifters are just fine. I have not really heard of any problems with them. If people want to spend the extra cash on the Morel lifters I have no problem with that. They also appear to have a good track record.

I'm using the factory LS3 lifters that came in the unopened engine with a Comp Cam. 231 239 .617 .624 113.
