Default LS2 into f body

I bought a bare 6.0 aluminum block. I'm about to pull my old LS1 block out for the 6.0 to go down in. I'm gonna pull some of the stuff off the LS1 onto the new block. Will everything work as far as the front cover and sensors?

If the 6L block you have is 24x then it will go right in, if its 58x then you need to change the reluctor to 24x or get a converter box. You may even have to do a gen3 to gen4. conversion

Need to drill and tap the side of the block for the current GEN3 knock sensors, and get a cam extension harness for the cam sensor being on the timing cover.

There are a number of important physical differences between the LS2 and the LS1. Hopefully you can use the search function here and look up some old threads. I have put a 402 LS2 (using LS6 intake and LS1 ported heads) in my 98. However that was some years ago (about 8) and I couldn't give you a definitive list of the physical differences. I didn't tap the block for new sensors as I recall I used an updated valley cover where the new sensors reside, which worked just fine, but there are slight differences around the valley cover, front or back cover and I forget which, and about 4 other important pieces you need from the LS2.

Hopefully google/bing will help if the forum's search function won't take you back 7-8years. Everything I had to do was discussed in great detail on this forum right after the LS2 came out.

You'll need an LS2 front cover and cam sensor.

Yea I've been searching forums looking for tips and what to switch over. But why can't you take a LS1 front cover and put it on the 6.0. Understand the cam sensor is different but can't you set it up like the LS1?

Called texas speed. There's not a provision on the block for the cam sensor vs the LS1 which has it

No offense but why not just get the ls2 front cover? I understand it costs money but drilling the rear of the block and tapping the hold just to run an ls1 cam sensor sounds more work than its worth not to mention if you should have to mess something up.....

Other than that you should just need the knock sensor extensions. As long as you use an ls6 or fast intake the map sensor and injections should be fine

I drilled and tapped my LSA block for the LS1 knock sensors, it was pretty easy and then you just need the adapter harness.

Here's the harness: http://www.casperselectronics.com/st...oducts_id=1224

And you can get the conversion kit here:

Do you need both kits to finish the conversion or just one. I am in the middle of the same build. My ls1 threw a rod luckily I had bought a ls2 short block, would the stock heads and Iintake work good or am I just choking the engine. What ever advise you can give me would be appreciated.

they'll work but a set of 243 heads is what cam on ls2's and they can be had for around 350-400 so i'd consider that route, with an ls6 intake it'll look just like an ls1 but run much ahrder

Yup, you need both. The harness is a must for the LS2 conversion, and it works, I just got mine fired up today for the first time. And the GM conversion kit will save you time and money, I didn't know about it at the time and pieced mine together.

Thanks, I checked the reluctor wheel today its a 58x I know the ls1 has the 24x how hard is that swap working out of my garage? Do I remove the crank completely and if so, how do I respace the crank when I put it back on? Some one had mentioned that the oil fill tube might not work and would probably need a ls2 one? As for 243 heads I found some ported and polished with double springs 650. Lift no rods or rockers, im thinking of putting a cam in it but have no idea what would work, hydraulic, roller, dont know im new to the internal engine but destined to learn. What do you guys recommend(cam) for the ls2 243 port and polished, fast intake with big mouth throttle or ls2 intake? Im looking for performace street car cam.
