Default Max Effort cam for over 500+ whp LS3?

Hey all,
I'll be buying an 08 LS3 C6 6MT later this month and probably the first mods will be a new cam and a set of headers/full exhaust.

I'll likely be retaining the stock heads for the foreseeable future, so I'd like cam suggestions that will make 500-525whp (which I know, is a tall order, but I know it has been done before) with the following mods...

-1 7/8in or 2in headers with catless x-pipe (will take suggestions on which is better)
-Ported stock T-Body (bare essentials racing probably)
-Ported stock LS3 Intake (bare essentials racing probably)
-Vararam (or similar) intake with airbridge
-Cat-back (do I need 3in? - Will take suggestions)
-Cam and spring kit
-Tune (obviously)

Please note: The car will have 4.10s and be rarely street driven. It will be a fun weekend car and mostly for HPDE/track days/fun - perhaps the occasional drag day too.

What cam do you recommend? Feel free to link to other threads with dyno results or similar setups (or both). Also Feel free to make the case on cat-backs and 1 7/8in headers vs 2in headers.

Thanks!

Katech or LG Motorsports are also good bets. Both sell cam packages for the LS3.

Plenty of options out there as far as cam selection goes. Go with 1 7/8 headers as I believe the 2" primaries are too large for stock LS3 cubes. I'm sure a 3" catback would help as well. Good luck...

This is what was in my max effort NA LS3. This cam was spec'ed by LMR. I am thinking about putting it up for sale, as I am going turbo.

I beg to differ on the headers. LS1's have shown to pick up hp with 1 7/8 over 1 3/4 headers and now were talking about adding 30 more cubes to the equation. 2 inch will do fine but lets touch on another subject.

OP, you say this will be for HPDE days and not much street driving. If that's the case, you need to get something ground for good low end grunt to pull you out of the corners and accelerate the car tremedously from 2500-5500 rpms. Just getting something ground for max all motor hp would probably not make good power under the curve which is what you need for the track. With that being said, you would probably lose torque with 2 inch headers so you can go against what I said because you need grunt not hp in this case so 1 7/8 will be the choice here in my book.

Obviously they'll work but the only LS3's I've seen with 2" primaries are running boost. Hell, even most ppl with LS7's run with 1 7/8 headers as opposed to the 2 inchers. There must be a good reason why...

I run 1-7/8 headers on my car. Times are in sig below.
If i build a set of step headers next, you can be sure the 1st step tube off of the exh port would be even smaller!!!
People also cant believe how small a collector i run as well when they look under the car!
But hey, bigger is always better right

I'd go with the pfadt tri-Y 1-7/8 headers and a 231/243 HUC 111, or if your willing to fly cut 242 LXL/251 LSL on 113 and spin it to 7500.
