Default Ls3 knocking after cam swap

I just put a tsp 231/236 cam with springs in a 2010 camaro. I never heard the car prior to the cam but this thing has a faint rod knock sound coming from the front. I never touched oil pump or anything just pushed the tensioner over fouled it with a cotter pin swapped the cam removed pin and put it back together. I honestly don't see how anything cam related is making the noise. It sounds like a faint rod knock. Any thoughts?

Did you check PTV? I'd look at the oil filter to see if there's any damage.

I didn't check piston to valve. The heads have never been off. Its the TSP cam so its suppose to clear. We actually put one in a 14 with no issues before. Oil and filter looked fine from what I can tell. Just the noise. I will say this though. The car is a family members and he actually broke the transmission at 15k miles by going from 2nd to 3rd at wot and hit 1st. He did this twice and broke it. The car has 19k on it now and I'm starting to wonder if the car was making this noise before because of the mechanical over rev and I just ended up finding it after I worked on it. He had the car in his garage when I got there so I never heard it before the cam.

PTV was gonna be my guess too until I saw the cam specs.

That leaves the me to believe that your 'ear' is correct......

I mean, if it sounds like a rod knock, looks like a rod knock and walks like a rod knock......then that's probably what it is.

Too bad you didn't get to hear the engine run before the swap......might've told you that you had a 'sick' engine in front of you prior to the install.

Ok listened to the car again. It's dead quiet cold now and when it's hot it had the faint knocking noise. It doesn't beat extremely loud or get louder with rpm just faster. When we bolted the cam gear on it was kinda tight pushing on the cam and I'm starting to wonder if the problem lies there. It sounds like it's coming from the timing cover if I stick my head down around the water pump it's the loudest ( rods are down there to tho lol) I'm gonna pull the timing cover and see if I find anything before I give up. It's at his house and he's let his dads friends listen to it and they say the rockers need adjusted lol.

Problem solved. When the 3 bolt timing gear was sent here it had a sticker or some kind of glue stuck on the backside of it where it pushes on the cam that let it push out and **** sideways rubbing the cam sensor and part of the timing cover and cam retaining plate. All of that over nothing.

You got that right lol. I really didn't want to pull a motor out of a 20k mile car.
