Opinions on this Lsa
Picked up a Lsa long block,,,,just because of the deal,,, I don't really want to put the supercharger back on it because of the cost involved.....if i put a cam and carburetor on it will it be a slouch because of the 9.1.1 compression ?? Also would a blow thru turbo kit cost less then the Lsa supercharger, accessories, harness etc etc....Also i have thought about a 416 but the pistons would hit the oil squirters right ??....What would you guys do..?

They do but they are $650, it's almost as cheap to buy forged flat top pistons for stock rods. That's what I am doing to mine. Even with smaller chamber Cathedral ports it is hard to get more than 9.6 to 1 compression with the 17cc dish pistons.

A 59cc head will get you about 10:1, which wouldn't be too bad. If a rebuild is an option, a stock LS3 rotating assembly would be a good budget friendly idea and solve some issues you may have down the road. Besides the flat tops in an LS3, you can also swap the crank for a 24x reluctor if needed and a regular flange. The 8 bolt flange on the LSA crank limits flywheel/flex plate options and can end up being pricey.
But if you don't want to rebuild it, the LSA is an engine meant for forced induction so give it boost. Unless you can fabricate a turbo kit yourself, it'll be about as expensive as an LSA blower and accessories. Since you mention a carb, I'm assuming this isn't going into a DBW car, so that could add some complexity in getting that sorted out if you add the blower.

While the LSA supercharger is $700-850 used and the other bits needed $1k... It can make 550rwhp+ with pretty much just a pulley change and decent exhaust/tune. Insta torque

Thanks guys......So maybe it would be best to find a used supercharger, accessories and harness.....cant be that much right ? If i do this what are some tricks i could do to the long block for added power ?? I'm thinking different cam and cnc heads ?? Who makes the right pulleys and which one should i get ?..Should i leave compression were its at ?? I'm thinking of putting this in my 96 Caprice...or my 90 notchback Mustang..

There are shelf pistons available from Mahle, DDS, JE and I think Diamond that will use the stock rod and stock .945 pin without going custom. You would be fine with a 4032 forging. The downside is you would still need to rebalance your rotating assembly for any of these so you would need to add $150-$200 over the cost of the pistons.

Ya that sucks and if i buy pistons then i should go + .005.....add $200 for bore and hone...
So theres about $1,200.....or i use the Lsa pistons and rods and buy new rings and i hone the block and buy the charger, harness, computer, accessories etc etc.........i think its going up for sale...lol..
