Default Help - Ultimate LS2 street cam

Hi everyone, I'm from Australia with a M6 (m12) 2006 Maloo R8. I'm searching for a cam and all the best LS workshops we have here push generic 228/232 or 232/234 cams. I know better than this but not enough don't have the full range of knowledge like I've read a few on here have after a few weeks of reading here.

My supporting modifications are LS7 clutch, OTRCAI, 1 7/8 pipes, 3" cats and twin 3", truetrac with 3.73 gears making 368rwhp. My goal is to buy or build a custom cam. It is my daily driver so I need it to be mannered and be able to drive in 6th at 1500 rpm and do bumper to bumper highway duties. I'm looking to build on what I have down low. I'm not here for top end power but that said I want as much as I can go within these boundaries is that makes sense? It's difficult for me because after reading about 15 years of posts and trends that one that seemed best suited was an old reverse splt at 230/227 112 lsa but that seems to be out of favour now. So any help for me would be appreciated. I will be keeping my stock heads and intake manifold too. Possibly just milling the heads if I have ptv clearance and chop or no chop doesn't bother me.

If I were to spec you a cam for your setup. id go around. 236/243 .620ish on the lift. on a 112lsa. that should make power everywhere and still be streetable. wont have to spin it to 7k to make power.

just my $.02

I ran a 230/238 113+3 in mine. Made good power and peaked right around 6,000 rpm so it liked to shift at 6400 or so. Insane amounts of low end power (at least as much as I can tell with the converter I have).

I recently switched to a solid roller that will behave like a 234/242 113+3 and it's similar down low (probably lost a little bit) but comes on much harder in the upper RPMs and will pull to 7000 but seemed to like being shifted at 6800-6900 at the track yesterday.

Seems a bit big. Like I said I cant do intake manifold or heads and it's a stick shift so I wont have a converter to pick up some of the slack down low. I'm looking for big gains below 4000rpm.

They're 2500 miles from me sadly. I might just take a punt on the 230/227 .591/.571 112lsa. I'm buying a new lsa powered hsv next year I just need something to hold me off until then.

The last thing you want on a car with cats in the exhaust is a reverse split cam. They have fallen out of favor in general but even when they were popular the key is that you must have a really high flowing exhaust.

I ran a 230/224 reverse split and the 230/238 in a LS1 prior to the LS2 swap and the later still picked up power over the prior everywhere from idle to redline with huge gains over it in the top end.

My roommate ran a 230/238 113+2 in his LS1 trans am and it was fine (he did go smaller when he had to replace it due to a lifter issue). In a LS2 it's even better because the cubes and compression help tame what little rowdiness it had in the LS1.

If you mean it seems big because of the lift spec be aware that Cam Motion can grind it on any lift you want but the lobes are mild enough it doesn't matter that it's higher lift than the reverse split you are looking at.

You could always go down a little in size but regardless I would recommend against a reverse split cam for your application.

After going in a 228/234 .600ish lift at 110 lsa last night I'm settled on it. I'll do cnc heads, mill them 30 and do a ported stock manifold and use that cam with a 112 lsa. I realise now I could probably go a touch bigger but I do use the car for work and general duties and don't want fuel to be a killer.

I usually ship cams to Oz for 105-125 dollars depending on the location within the continent.

I'd be glad to assist you with your camshaft selection.
