Default LSX 454 Build - Affordable Heads/Intake Options

Hey guys,

I took the plunge on an LSX 454 build with 4.185" bore and 4.125" stroke. We're going with all forged internals and a solid roller cam, specs TBD depending on our heads/intake combo. I want to get this car completed on a budget with room to grow in the future, including boost in a year or so. My goals are high N/A power for now. Here's my two options:

Option 1: Trickflow GenX 255 ported heads with Ported LS3 Intake
Option 2: PRC 285cc LS7 heads with Ported LS7 Intake

My shop has the GenX heads onsite for a smoking deal, but I think I'm leaning towards the PRC heads for about $600 more. I've heard the PRC heads have a higher CFM and the LS7 style allows me to get the MSD intake down the road for a little extra power. This is all assuming PRCs lead time is less than 4 weeks. I'm also open to other sub $3k heads.

EDIT: Schedule is a concern on this build. It needs to be completed within 4 weeks or less.

TFS LS7 Heads!
MAMOFIED over your budget but an Awesome Head.
400+ CFM @ .600" from >265 CC Intake Port.
Especially combined with MAMOFIED MSD Intake.

That would be a solid setup! But, I don't think we'd have the time. We really only have about 4 weeks before this needs to be completed and in our hands. Although Tony Mamo does amazing work, I'm not sure he could turn it around that fast.

LSX 454" typically 4.185" Bore X 4.125" Stroke.
4.200" is Max recommended Bore.

That's where I'm leaning. Although the LS3 heads are ported quite a bit and could maybe achieve 400 CFM or close to it.

Thank you everyone for all the input. You've pretty much solidified my decision to go with PRC LS7 heads and a stock ported LS7 intake for now. I'm hoping for 580-600 whp on this setup, with room to go once we add an MSD Intake and 2" Headers.

454 and boost later on is probably not the best plan. Should have kept it to 427 or lower if you're serious about boosting it in a year.

I have PRC 285's and have been happy with them. I also agree with Hi-Po, you may want to rethink that bore and stroke if you plan on boost. Your head gaskets will be extremely thin between the cylinders.
