LS2 Intakes
Has anyone heard anything about the release date for the LS2 intakes? I'm really wanting to upgrade my intake at the sametime that I get LT headers for a nice little power boost, just wondering how long of a wait I am possibly looking at. Also, any tech savy guys see any problems with bolting it up to an LS1 in a 00" SS?

Seeing that it's a 90mm opening and probably much bigger inside as well wouldn't it make sense that it might be a slight 'overkill' on a stock internal 346 bolt on car much like the 90mm FAST intake is?
This is all assuming that it will fit a current LS1/LS6 motor with no problems that is, this hasn't been totally confirmed yet I don't think.

What is this nonsense about overkill??? Just kidding..just looking for a competative alternative to the LSX for comparison purposes before I shell out some more green for my money *****, I mean SS.

On the same point, if I am going to get a new intake for my 00' SS, should I get one without the EGR port? I would like to get rid of the EGR and AIR sys. and get the QTP race style headers and a good dyno tune. Comments, opoinions, and cash donations for this project will be appreciated.

I meant overkill as in counterproductive/hurting performance over a 78mm LSX or even a stock LS6 intake.
It's been somewhat accepted that you wouldn't put a 90mm FAST on a stock internals or even 'small cam' only car so I was thinking that might apply to the LS2 as well?

The other factor is the front and back of the block/valley cover/timing chain cover areas etc might be different causing a slightly different shape to the bottom of the intake?
Again, just theory and conjecture talking, no facts yet.

FWIW I contacted GM parts direct and they said that the part # I gave them does exist but they don't know what it is for or when it will be released. If I had to make an educated guess I would say we should start to see them in a few months. Lets hope it is sooner.

I would just like to see something that equals or betters the LSX for about the same price. A little competition never hurt any consumer. I would love for it to outperform the LSX and be the same price in a perfect world. If that happened I would probably get the LSX after its price fell a bit.

I don't see how a 90mm is overkill on a 5.7 when it will come stock on a 6.0. The bad thing for us f-body owners is that the C6 throttle body is fly by wire so we can't use it. We will have to dish out the big $ for an aftermarket 90mm TB.
It would be great if it outperformed the 90mm LSX, which is very possible due to the fact that GM has alot more resources to R&D something like this, but I'll wait until I see some real-life performance numbers before I replace my LS6 intake with it.

You're right about the TB thing, I forgot about that one.

Unless you are running power adders or a bigger than stock cube motor - the stock LS6 will run just as hard as the LSX! Proven in Popular Hotrodding! It was like a 3HP gain??? For $800??? No way! But with you having the LS1 intake - it might be justified, but going bigger than the 78mm would only hurt performance.

Will the new LS2 equiped cars be coming with 90mm MAFs also???? I just don't see the point of a bigger intake and TB, if you don't have a MAF to match it. Surely GM thought about this too.
