First Time Fire Up Question
Hey guys,
I have this sweet piece of Chinese steel coming in a few days, and I plan to use it as a engine start up stand. I am going to weld in some X bracing for support on the bottom, and put some locking casters on it.
So far the plan is to take the engine off the stand and place it on the dolly so I can get the flywheel on, and wire the engine. The engine is a 2007 5.3 Gen IV engine (see below).
I am using the factory harness stripped down to the bare essentials, and a factory fuse box. I already have a flashed ECU without VATs, and I plan to use a fuel injector cleaner to supply pressurized fuel to the fuel rail. My question is this, I currently don't have a key or ignition switch. Is there a way to temporarily wire in a momentary switch to act as a key switch? If so where would I wire it in? As always thank you guys for your help.
Thanks
-Andrew

For wiring, you need to supply power to everything that needs power when the engine is running. You also need a way to run the starter (unless you are doing it old school style with a hand crank...)...Power to the starter, then a momentary switch for the starter solenoid...

This is what I am referencing for the fuel injector cleaner https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00GZ0H9VC/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1506479382&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=fuel+injector+cl eaner+tool&dpPl=1&dpID=417FvhbgihL&ref=plSrch
Unless I mess something up everything should be powered. I will have to take a look at my starter and see if I can figure it out.

Don't forget big (4 gauge minimum) ground cables to the engine from the battery.
Not sure about that injector cleaner thing. I'd drop a fuel pump into a gas can...or something...lol

Works great.
Much simpler than rigging up a pump, can o fuel, electric, plumbing.
Not to mention safer...

That sort of stand is made for WORKING on the engine; NOT for running it.

I have one of those engine cradles for my 6.0 and with the engine bolted up it is pretty sturdy. Of course extra bracing should be used. I have seen people start engines on an engine stand the one to rotate the motor to assemble and that looks way scarier than the cradle.

I plan to move then engine off the stand and onto the cradle this weekend. Once I have it on there I will see how much additional bracing is needed. I have a lot of 2"x2" steel tube I plan to construct into out riggers. I will post pics.
Did you have to modify your cradle to fit the engine?

The SBC block is WAY different than the LS block
