Got the stock harness 90% done for the holley conversion. If this works, I'll be using the stock ECU to run the fuel pump, starter, fans, all gauges, reverse lock out solenoid, reverse lights, Evap purge, and interface with the other factory systems. I gave myself a few extra pink pigtails in case I need to grab an additional ignition feed for anything. I still need to loom it, but I'm pretty happy with the product so far:

Here is all the engine control garbage I took out of the harness. It's a pain due to everything being so tightly braided together, but once you get past that and start working it, it isn't so bad. Just gotta take your time.

Gonna be more complicated than that. I have a 58x crank with a 58x harness (on the way lol). I'll have to split the signal and use my old lingenfelter box to get 24x. Gotta love it. Long term, I'll be ditching the stock gauges etc. For now, just to get the car running, I could mod the harness basically for free, plus time.

Here is the modified harness. The jegs loom kit is quite nice.

The re-repaired head is back on, lol. Working on getting the harnesses laid out properly so the installation looks nice and neat. Going to have to pull some more stuff off to get better access, and I need to re-seal the rocker bolts anyway. Pain in the ***, but I really don't want to have to do this again, so I'm trying to get all of it now.

So after a TON of travel and **** I finally get a chance to work on the car. Turned into a complete fuckaroo.

My plan was to install the header, install the pushrods and rockers, then run the harnesses and be sitting pretty.

I got the header on without having to drop the exhaust. But when I was installing pushrods, number 7 intake fell into the head and laid over. I could not retrieve with a magnetic tool. So, unbolt the header, pull the head. Well then, I dropped one of the stud nuts down into number 8 primary, so after I cleaned off the head I had to drop the damned exhaust anyway to retrieve the nut, because - again - magnetic retrieval tool would not get it.

Head back on and torqued, and then when I was starting to mess with the exhaust, the car shifted on the jack stands and scared the **** out of me, so I stopped for the night.

I would seriously be further along if I drank all afternoon and watched Netflix.

Got some alone time. Valve train is set back up. Header is on. Got both harnesses rough-routed. I want to take some time and tuck stuff in neatly before putting the intake on.

Still it's nice to see the tunnel look bigger behind than in front.

Glad you got some time to work on the beast. When will it be making a return approximately? Keep the updates coming!

Thanks guys. Hard to say. I think mechanical stuff is about five hours worth of work. The real question is going to be the electrics. I know I am not the first to do a Holley conversion, but it is my first time and also hacking into the stock harness. So we will see.

Darth,

Good catching up briefly the other day......we will continue where we left off soon

In hindsight your name of this project was pretty damn spot on.....a long awaited revival from the dead indeed!!

Looking forward to some numbers with the engine issues all resolved (and the better tuning software).

Talk soon
Tony

At long last... She lives!

i put a similar update in the thread in the tuning section about the piggyback harness. Details here will be a bit different.

Regarding the piggyback, it does work for the most part. I've got a crank signal issue I need to work through. The second patch is definitely holding. The car started up, reached temperature, and is not smoking at all. Well, maybe just a tad from fueling adjustments and burning all the oil debris out of the exhaust system, but nothing like before when it looked like an old diesel. I've still got to figure out the cooling fans. They did not kick on at temperature.

The idle is different. It feels almost subtler, which I like. You can tell it's a big cam, but it's not chopping as hard as the cam size would indicate. I think now that the ports are correct and there's not more mechanical issues, I'm finally seeing the benefit of the port velocity for taming this cam, which was what I expected.

Throttle stabs are really fun. It just jumps to RPM, with very little throttle. I've still got a lot of cleanup on the car to do. I have to mount the ECU permanently and coil up the excess harness, for example, and put the rest of the interior back together.

I've got a lot of work to do tuning the car - and learning the new software. It's very rich right now. I won't try to drive it until I get the cooling fans worked out. Once they're functional, I should be able to get it dialed in. At any rate, I've owed you guys an update for quite some time, and here it is. Also, here is the idle clip during the first start and warm up.

Happy you've got something to play with...and it not being a mechanical problem.

Did Wilson actually help with the process or was he just there for the coolness factor?
