I will be fully honest. I am torn on piggybacking vs just fabbing up a new cluster and replacing the gauges. My speedometer doesn't move as fast as the car, so when I hit the clutch, the needle is still moving. My tach stops at 7400, though it shows 7000, but I rev to 8000, so I have to use my laptop and a shift light when i'm partying. The 6.8 and 7" screen overtop of the gauge cluster thing to me looks dumb and tiny, and the 12.3" looks like it won't fit. My goldilocks solution might be to ditch the radio and replace with the 6.86 screen to supplement the stock gauges. I can't hear the radio anyway...
So, I still have decisions to make on this. I think first thing I'll do is just not piggyback anything just to make sure I get it to run, since the troubleshooting gets way worse with a piggyback. Then I'll get the piggyback set up. I'm planning to move the OE ECU inside the cabin with the Holley ECU and trim as much wiring out as I can to thin out the loom and clean up the engine bay.
It's already looking like it will be every bit as big a project as I feared. The mechanical stuff might end up being easier, lol.

DarthV8r, I followed this thread quietly out of curiosity, admiring ideas and results. It inspired me to build Darton sleeved solid roller street 427 which I never considered before. Currently I have 6.0 aluminum block at RED in queue to install Darton sleeves. When the time comes, I will seek your and others advise.
I’m not done upgrading my LS1 yet which I intend to finish before moving to 427. Ghost Hawk 346 thread helped me decide on parts selection.

I was completely unexpected, but the #3 plug that was fouling has a perfectly clean port while the others looked varnished. I puzzled over this until I felt around inside the port, and it was completely oil soaked. Basically, the oil is so new that it is transparent. but the coating is heavy enough that it prevented varnish from sticking. But the other ports varnished up and felt bone dry. There was no oil inside the intake manifold.

I'm not entirely sure it's reversion. I've had reversion before and the ports are usually more black. My thinking was that the ports are varnished from excessive oil mist due to the hole in the runner. Like I think it's something happening under idle, but once you put the motor under power - i.e. get the throttle open - the oil all just goes into the cylinder. But you gotta idle the car too. if I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me. No sarcasm or weird tone of voice intended. If you'd rather answer via PM, that's ok too.
if you do switch up, the chrs1313 doesnt seal to well out of the box to the lid base, the SSRA is much nicer IMO. sits a little lower and by the looks can scoop more air, but you msy already know this or will figure out something else

I do need to redo mine. The hood is the old super hawk hood you cannot get anymore. The nostrils are massive and the volant box did a great job trapping that air.
But I do not think it keeps up anymore honestly

the only way to get enough air in that thing is to force it in there
