Default C6 LS3 416 Build Started

Starting a new build on my vette. I cut my oil filter open and it was full of pretty shiny things. The poor girl died from lifter failure. I ordered a new forged short block from Thompson Motorsports yesterday and will order the long block completion parts from them in the next couple days after I figure out the cam specs.

Thompson Motorsports
Blue printed New LS3 aluminum block
ACL coated racing bearings
K1 forged crankshaft
4.000" Manley H-Heavy 4340 forged connecting rods with ARP 2000 rod bolts
Diamond or Wiseco pistons with GFX file fit rings
ARP Main Studs
Frankenstein Thompson Edition M311 11* CNC 6 bolt heads
Extreme duty stainless intake and extreme duty solid exhaust valves
Billet Rocker Rails
.660 springs
3/8 pushrods
ARP Head Studs
Melling Select High pressure oil pump
Billet adjustable timing set
Johnson 2116LSR Lifters
Trunion Upgraded Rockers
GM MLS head gaskets
Trunion Upgraded Rockers

Cam is still TBD

See they got the 11 degree heads out .....was told about them a few months ago as a cheaper version of the F series heads. Looks and sounds like Liberty castings. Best wishes..

I have a Vengeance ported Fast 102 on it right now so I'll keep it.

One cam that was recommended by Thompson is 240/256 113 +4. That thing has 22* of overlap so I'm concerned about tuning it for drivability with my 3000 stall in my auto tranny. I'm open to recommendations. I haven't picked the cam or CR.

If you don’t already have them and depending on cam selected and expected rpm you my want to look at mid length runners . Still a great start

I need to look into that but I'm not sure the age of my intake will allow it. It's about 7 years old. I heard the older Fasts won't allow it.

You need to pick CR first then you can pick the cam. I would recommend giving Cam Motion a call and be honest about the driveability and manners your looking for

The older gray intakes will accept the different runners. I have one.

Yes they brought back the MAST Black Label clone castings made overseas for a budget friendly builder, no where near what an F Series can produce but have a few customers making some great numbers for a $2400 set of heads

Default Pistons and compression ratio

We decided on -2cc ftat tops and a 11.2 CR using the Frankenstein Thompson Edition M311 Heads. We are setting the ring gap for the possibility of adding boost sometime down the road. I haven't had a chance to talk to a tuner or Cam Motion yet about the cam. Kyle at Thompson said the have had great luck with the 240/256 113 +4 .625 .625 cam he was suggesting. The valve events on that are IVO 11*, IVC 49*, EVO 65*, and EVC 11*. 22* Overlap.

I have lurked on this board a good bit and respect the knowledge and great information it provides. I would appreciate suggestions/feedback.

Just Liberty castings...Btw Eric won the Race Engine Challenge with liberty heads. Name means nothing but who's doing the work. 62 I've been dealing with Chris since he basically started....you need to ask who was the 1st guy who had his Factory port Ls3 program tested @ Sam...I've got Connection's on anything dealing with cylinder heads.
Anything!

What most don't know is A Lot of parts are made overseas and get here for finishing touches.

Your concern with possibly not being happy with 22* of overlap and the auto with a mild converter and conservative compression leads me to think the recommend cam is to large. I would keep the long runners in the intake and call Cam Motion for a better fit

Thank you. I spoke with the tuner who did the previous dyno tune after my cam install he he said is was too big for my needs as well.

Bad ***, They up front with me when I started using them but I like what they've done for the money.

My only goal with Chris and factory ls3 heads was to see 800+ hp with less than 418 ci or -.080 overbore and a 8 second pass. Flyin did that and I am glad to have known him to get the results and all the information on his setup.

I also added an Improved Racing Crank Scraper and windage tray. Those are some real nice pieces of CNC jewelry that I hope I will never get to see again.

I went with a Pat G. spec'd Cam Motion 8620 core cam. 240/248 .626 .626 113 +3. PNG .368 lobes. (18 deg overlap) Static 11.2:1 Dynamic 8.45:1. Those are 3/8 pushrods with Johnson 2116LSR lifters.
