Dart SHP Pro Iron 434
Could we have shipped an intake with a few slivers of plastic still left in it.....sure its certainly a possibility
BUT....have you considered that your decision to remove the runner (unfortunately not paying attention to which ports they were removed from) is actually what allowed the shavings to find their way into the plenum?!?
Doing the work we do it's inevitable that some slivers of plastic are bound to be pushed into the seams when the intake is carbide ported (heavy material removal) and then rolled (light material removal) and its highly likely the removal of the runners freed them up (you can even see the thin plastic hairs hanging off the runner flange in your pictures).
The bottom line is we spend a good bit of time with compressed air blowing out every nook and cranny we can access of the manifolds we port prior to slipping it back in the box and sending it to our customers.
However, that said its always the responsibility of the end user/installer to perfectly clean everything prior to assembly. No different than a new camshaft, a new crankshaft a set or rocker arms or any other engine part you pull from the box. That's high performance engine building 101.
So Peter.....after spending a bunch of time helping you sort out the emergency runner situation last night (I figure 45 minutes in reading and drafting a handful of emails) this is the post I have to hop on LS1Tech to address?
To be honest Im fairly certain any small plastic debris found was released/freed up when the intake runners were removed (they were pinched in the seams previously) which I would have advised against because even reinstalling the same runner in it's respective outlet can slightly alter the perfect port/base match I strive to achieve.
The fact I even have to be typing this response leaves me feeling like this
(That's me poking myself in the eye)......Big sighHowever....we are here now so for the benefit of others reading.....by all means blow out the ported intake you receive from me. Use a garden hose in fact if you really want to go crazy but please don't remove the runners as their is no need and you can compromise some of the work you paid for creating some shifting of the runner/base configuration.
I should add as someone else already mentioned that even larger plastic chips wont harm a single thing (unless there was a mound of them) but naturally we all should try (I say we meaning Mamo Motorsports and the end user) to get the intake as clean as possible prior to the final install.
Back to the project I was happily working on before I received a text that made my mouth drop
-Tony

Tony,
This has been blown out of proportion.
I certainly did not mean to make you unhappy,
It was no big deal.
My intent was only a casual mention and that's it. It's nothing really to worry about.
It is common sense to ensure that the intake is clean also as you said and this is what I was meaning in the first place.
To anyone reading this, it's not an attack or put down of Tony in ANY way.
I am really happy with everything.
Tony has provided me the best of everything and am more than satisfied. I'm not just saying that either. It is true.
I regret writing it the way that I did.
Damn, I need to be more aware on how I type my words to convey the correct message out there to my American brothers.

I'm the same way sometimes lol, I come off odd to some people when I make a Comment/post. I'm not a writer nor have the best grammer
I knew what you meant. I've never met Tony before but I've followed his work for many years, highly respected in the industry.
I can also understand his post as well. No harm was done on either sides I feel like. In for results

I know Tony is well respected and so he should be after all he has done.
I hope no harm has been done either as it certainly was not my intention.
He did spend quite a bit of time to help me sort out those runners after i mixed them up and now to think that he is not happy has stressed me out a bit.
I want to clear it up.
Oh good lord, everyone take a breath.
On the vendor side, you obviously don't want a member posting something negative, especially if it was user error or inaccurate.
On the customer side, you obviously expect perfection, or as close as possible, especially when you're paying $xx,xxx for the job.
On the forum side, it's hardly bashing or being overly critical to want to understand the full experience when dealing with a vendor. It's not always roses and 100% perfect, issues can arise. How a vendor handles an issue speaks volumes more than the issue itself. Jumping online to attack the customer usually isn't the first choice
This thread and issue hardly qualifies as bashing.

This thread and issue hardly qualifies as bashing. What made you want to open up the intake. A bit of time spent with workshop compressed air and nozzle would have blown out any debris. Also any small bits of plastic will not do any damage to an engine either, it'll burn up as soon as it's drawn into the cylinder. I can see why Tony got a bit upset because there wasn't really a need to pull the intake apart when compressed air would have made sure it was clean enough.
I was reading around on the forums and I noticed Tony also has a 255cc Cathedral head.
Do any of you know much about this?
What bore size and displacement is this head aimed at?
These come with huge 2.200 intake valves too.
The thread I found was discussing this head for a 454.
It has 385CFM of flow with Tony's hand finishing option which is pretty crazy.
Mast's cathedral head flows almost 400CFM but with a much larger 295cc runner.
Obviously Tony's head is more efficient.

If Tony thought they were the right way to go he would have mentioned it for sure.
I have a feeling they are most likely designed for larger engines than my 434.
I might ask him about it but I'm betting the 245 is the more suitable hot ticket for my setup.
I didn't even know they existed till just before I posted.

like me, I shift my 427 at 7900. It would probably do great for me if I wanted to go back cathedral
I haven't been posting much lately but my brother from another mother Smokey isn't coming back.
Smokey and I have already discussed this on the phone. He's on another forum having fun.
On the other hand good luck on your build Bortous.
