Default Lifter options

Well, after several years, I’m back, and picking up where I left off after life got in the way. Putting together my LS3 headed 370 and it’s time to pick some lifters. I’ve been searching on here and FB for about 3 days on a good lifter and I’ve got it narrowed down to 3.

370” 6.0 iron block
LS3 heads w/trunion upgraded rockers.
Stock LS3 valves
still undecided on valve springs although I do have titanium locks and retainers left over from a previous build that I want to use. (Thoughts on springs as well?)
Custom 230/242 .60x/.61x 113 EPS cam

looking at the Johnson 2110R drop ins
the morel 5290 w/tie bar
and the comp 15850s.

engine will be mostly strip car, with 7000 rev limit and 6700 shift points.

as much as I would like to have an 800 dollar lifter in it, it’s just not in the cards unless it’s a dire difference in lifter that will prevent certain death of my engine.

If it will mostly be a strip car I would certainly go with a lifter that can take the abuse.
The 5290 is a street series lifter which I had at one stage in my previous engine.
These will work for who knows how long but they are not designed for strip use.
Definitely go with the Johnsons.
They are a better lifter.

it’ll mostly be a strip car. Occasionally driven on the street. Will likely see a 150-200 shot.

I was meant to write strip car in the first sentence.
Definitely go with the Johnsons.

I haven’t heard any bad about the Johnsons. What about the comp in comparison to the Johnsons? The link bar on the morel obviously doesn’t do much for anything if the lifter can’t keep up, so the drop ins might be a better choice. The short travel design does appeal to me due to added stability.

The short travel design is better for higher RPM operation as it will act more like a solid lifter and keep up the stability.
Don't know how the comp lifters compare to the Johnsons.
Not sure if drop ins or tie bar would be better for your application.
Maybe someone can chime in and answer this question for you.

My cam has about same spec as your. Why not LS 7 lifters and BTR 660 springs? I have been running ls 7 lifters for 30,000 miles and no hiccups I shift at 6800 with the rev limiter set at 7000.

For the rpm you mention the Johnson 2110Rs will do great and a way better lifter design. We had a lifter shootout in 2018 and since then we only use Johnson lifters on our hydraulic applications.

After some reading, it looks like the ls7 lifter is shorter than the other aftermarket lifters causing pump up and bleed off issues. Plus, ls7 lifters are like 150-200 and Johnson’s aren’t much more.

I talked to a guy on facebook and he says he spins Johnsons to 8500 rpm. They take more abuse than LS7 lifters.

Another vote for johnson here. I didn't run the 2110, I ran the 2126. But Ran them for 15K+ very abusive miles, then sold them when i went full solids. The car they went into is still running on them. FWIW, johnson also manufactures Isky hydraulic lifters.

Edit -- btw, nice to see you back in here posting again.
