LSX454 BTR Stage 4 Cam opinions
Gentlemen looking for some opinions on this one.
Factors
Street, grudge racing 1958 GMC air ride truck
GMPP Crate LSX454
GMPP TR6060
1300 miles on the setup
So had the setup on the dyno couple weeks ago and was not impressed at all with the power the truck made. I understand some drivetrain power loss based on my two piece drive shaft and locker 9” setup and 24x15 wheels........
truck could only muster 505WHP and 495 Torque
What I’m wanting to make is 575, so the game plan is to send the GM 6 bolt heads to Richard at WCCH and port them and knock mill them to achieve 12:1 compression. Yet I’m undecided on camshaft at this point, was thinking the easy road is a BTR Stage 4 cam and call it good. Considering the truck is driven 10-15 times a year.
Once I achieve the 575 mark I will use the direct port nitrous setup for a 150 shot and call it good.
Looking for options on camshaft selection or even totally different heads?

I think with your ported ls7 heads and a stage 4 ls7 cam you shouldn't have a problem hitting your power goals. I have a 434 with ported ls3 heads and a custom cam that's closer to the stage 3 cam and I made 573/525 through a 6 speed with a 9 inch on 20 inch wheels in my Chevelle.

Are you sure it isn't down a hole? Possibly two? 575 should be a layup for a 6 bolt 454

not sure which coil that is. first, just check for bent pins int he coil subharness connector. You might have a bad coil, but rule out the easy stuff first.

If I truly had a dead cylinder the plugs would tell that story. It does seem that it’s down about 40-50HP
I will do some more digging on the P0352 code.

to answer your original question, yes the btr stage 4 will make a big difference over your current cam, especially with bumping compression. With the head work, I think gaining 70 is very realistic. I just would have thought your current combo would be closer to 550 to begin with and the S4 cam with WCCH heads would be well north of 600.
Question - are you noticing the engine "nose over" really bad after say 6000 rpm?

Sometimes plugs read just fine on a dead cylinder. All mine looked alike when several valves were broken. The holley adjusted fuel trims quick enough im guessing. We even thru in new plugs, changed timing and watch the strap move constantly across 8 cylinders. Gotta see whats really going on there. Tuner say anything when it was on the dyno? Any KR, or anything odd?
